Kooz: Thing is, not everyone goes to bed just before or on midnight, wether they're working, or just doing it because they feel like it.
Either Xnet needs to start shaping their internet for full paying customers so it doesnt nuke the non-torrenters during 12-8am. Or they push it back. I noticed someone said 2am. I would also agree with this. its roughly the latest I stay up most nights i need to be up past 12. Hope someone at Xnet is reading this. Seriously consider it please.

The problem is you want 2am, someone else posts 4am, it's impossible to come up with a solution which will suit everyone.

If this has become such an issue, as scottjpalmer has already mentioned, maybe a swap in ISP is the solution?

If costs allow, 2 different bandwidth pools. 1 for everyone on the torrent plan and one for everyone else....

That's exactly right xpd but something tells me they didn't factor this cost into the price of their existing setup. Now that they can see what's happening it'll cost a lost to create the infrastructure. Let's hope they wake up and bite the bullit before they lose too many customers.

Lose too may customers over what? Getting better speeds during the day ands evening, when they're most likely to be using the internet, at the expense of between midnight and 8AM when they're sleeping? Yeah, I'm really sure that they're going to lose a lot of customers by doing things that improve their speeds.

As mentioned earlier, if midnight untiul 2AM is vitally important to the OP, then they should probably look at other ISP options.

Most torrents are illegal. We shouldnt be enocouraging people to use them.

Just curious about where you found this out, can you provide a reference?

I think Xnet have done as much at they can to accomodate high usage users and normal users without having to spend on systems which can allocate a given contention ratio on username. They have created a plan were as many people are happy as possible, but obviosly its not always possible to satisfy everyone completly.

For the most part my downloads are pretty quick during the day and early evening and much content I have delivered comes via akamai so uits obviously fast.

If people find that their internet usage is mainly aafter work and on weekends then switch to a more expensive ISP that consists of mainly business users. ISPs that have mainly business users have bucket loads of free bandwidth during the evevings when people go home from work and schools are out so there are never speed issues at night.... it just might cost you more. eg, Maxnet, Iconz, Digital Island would be good choice for people with the need for evening and weekend speeds.

To add to what Insane said, it is probably cheaper for XNet to loose some customers rather than invest in equipment/bandwidth that will make everyone happy while being used only a few hours per day. I am confident they have dome a lot of investigation into this. We are the end user, not the service provider, and it is up to WxC to decide what type of service they provide to what type of customer.

If you do not like Mc Donald's, then go to Wendy's, but don't tell Mc Donald's they must make their burgers 3 times the size and half the price. They have their business model that works for them and the market they focus on.

That's quite fair niel. I think the issue lies in not telling the customers to expect such awful speeds during the 'torrent hours'. If switching didn't cost anything and there were no term plans and it only took a few minutes to change ISP's, fine. This isn't the case though and it's nice to have all the information up front. I was considering joining Xnet (there's no mention of the offpeak slowdown anywhere on their website). Thanks to this forum however, I now know better than to commit myself.

I think that if there isn't any included hardware, that there isn't a term (I could be wrong however). Also, it doesn't take much time at all to change ISPs (or "churn"ing), I've recently swapped from Vodafone (was ihug) to Snap, and it was done in an afternoon.

If Snap doesn't work out, I'll swap again.

XNet pays for you to switch to XNet, that costs you nothing. XNet does not require any payment in advance, when you switch to them it is only the following month that you receive an invoice and then have 'till about the 19th to pay (i.e. you pay for the previous month, not the coming month), and there is NO term contract at all. You can switch to anyone else at any time at zero cost. They know their service is not for everyone, thus they do not lock you into any contract. This is unlike so many others, like Telstra Clear that wants to lock you in for 2 years "with no catch", and you have to use their phone service, and tolls, and...

I use a lot of data so Snap worked out as a better deal, plus they can do multiple public IP addresses on a normal broadband connection which is something I'm about to implement (it'll be a lot better than doing port forwards).

It is alittle hypocritical to not be using Xnet at home being a dealer for them, but we use them at work, and my parents use Xnet at their place, and so does my partner at her place, so I think I can be forgiven

On a side note has anyone else noticed how much more bandwidth there is at said torrent times? Perhaps all the people complaining and leaving are the ones using the most bandwidth? Can more complainers leave plz?
