The bridge mode method I used was tick the "PPPoE Pass-through" option in the Draytek, then in the WRP400 use PPPoE mode, with your ADSL login details enter there.

I prefer full visibility of the DSL / PPP status but viewing the DSL lights on the Draytech would work too.

Can anyone offer advice about setting the Router and Modem settings for a double port forwarding configuration, specifically assigning Static WAN IPs on the router and modem.

I understand the process and objective, but lack the skill to do this myself.

Thanks Coffeebaron, glad to see you're back! I just want to set up the 502T in half bridge and control all the port forwarding etc from the WRP400. What I would like to know is what DMZ NAT DHCP Firewall setting etc I should keep or switch off on the 502T, I guess I'm wanting to know what other specific settings one needs on the modem, or is merely basic default settings but for the half-bridge mode sufficient, conversely do I have to set up the WRP400 to allow this to work i.e. disable DHCP etc.

I'm ok with setting up port forwarding, but was never able to do it successfully with my current setup - due to the interaction between the 502T and the WRP400.

I'm wanting to forward ports for P2P and torrent purposes and also VNC.

I believe the WRP400 has a straight forward interface for setting up portforwarding, I'm just wanting to get to the point when if I want to forward a port it will actually work. Admittedly, I might be missing out some intermediary steps.

Update: I've managed to configure double port forwarding - so all my applications P2P, torrent and VNC etc are reporting respective ports are open, which is great.
I managed this by following the portforwarding.com page posted by RobM, and also with the partial help of Xnet staff.

I also finally "got" what was going on and directed the ports as the page suggested. However, this didn't work until I also enabled DMZ mode. I thought port forwarding if set up properly would work without than DMZ mode but my setup appeared not to work until DMZ was enabled. Again, I might have missed something or I may have made incorrect conclusions.

Still, while I enjoy successful portforwarding for the first time ever, there is a big but, whenever I'm on the phone using VFX my speedtest stats drop, in practical terms I have poor internet function but more significantly silent pauses in voice transmission.
I stop hearing the other end of a conversation for about 5 seconds every 30 to 50 seconds.

Speedtest Stats:

Internet only (No VFX)
Ping: 82ms DL: 3052kbps UL: 784kbps

VFX:
Ping: 360ms DL: 686kbps UL: 585kbps

The only port forwarding I can't setup and don't know If I need to is that of the VFX I was told to set up by Xnet.
I was told to setup port forwarding for
TCP/UDP Ports 8060 – 8065 Signalling
TCP/UDP Ports 5060 – 5065 Signalling
UDP Ports 35384 – 37384 Media

I've done this in the 502T, but unsure if I need to replicate this in the WRP400, and if so to what IP address, given that applications connect via Wifi to a specific IP, whereas the phone connects directly to the WRP400.

I hope someone can help me whether it be half-bridge mode or portforwarding for VFX at the WRP400.

Hi Hatch,

Great to hear you've made progress. I had a look through the 502 options, and my pick was something like this:
- give the WRP400 a static IP (on WAN side) of 192.168.1.5 & fill DNS entries, 58.28.4.2 /6.2
- change 502 to have same address range, i.e. 192.168.1.1
- turn off any firewall etc in the 502
- assign DMZ to 192.168.1.5 (i.e. the WRP400)
- then in the WRP400, assign all the port forwarding (as the 502 should send all ports direct to the WRP400)

As for your VFX issues. I always setup the QoS settings in the WRP400 to lower the priority for each computer on the LAN. You do this under "application & gaming" / "QoS". Create new categories for each PC MAC address, and give them all low priority. Also set the upstream bandwidth manually to about 200k less than you upstream sync speed.

Hi Coffeebaron,

Thanks for the Qos settings; I just applied them and it seems to have done the trick!
I did everything in the first part of your post except the other way around.
I gave the WRP400 a static IP within the range of the 502T i.e. 10.1.1.x and then applied the DMZ mode to the WRP400's IP.
Firewall off and no half-bridging mode.

Everything seems to work really well, although I'm still trying to get the VNC working properly - the ports are forwarding correctly so there must be some other tweaking necessary.

Just out of interest does half-bridging mode make any difference? You mentioned it in an earlier post.

Half bridge can work very well; but...
- if your DSL drops out, you may have to reset all devices. You can get around this issue usually by applying for a static IP from your ISP.
- Some ADSL router / VoIP router combo's don't do half bridge very well

I've had great success with most Dynalink's in half bridge into WRP400, until the DSL drops out; so fine on a very stable line, or if you have static IP, or if you don't mind the occasional reboot. You just need to see what works best, for some DMZ is best, others half-bridge.

Haven't really played much with the GEN-II DLinks though... didn't you brick yours??

Hmm...well at the moment everything is (finally) working great, so I'd like to thank Coffeebaron for your assistance and also RobM for the link which helped me conceptually.

I don't know what benefits I might get from half-bridge mode so since everything is pretty good at the moment I'll perhaps let sleeping dogs lie.

I did brick my original 502T, but I have 2 others, one a Gen-II the other a Gen-I, I also have a Gen-I 504T which I tried flashing to non Telecom firmware, but that didn't work. A lot of people I know have these modems lying around, hence my access to "a pile".

This has all been a very educational experience, and I'm happy with the results inspite of the fact I was told by Xnet support that D-Link modems are unreliable and not at all recommended, it's good to be able to prove them wrong, at least thus far. I'm sure more sophisticated and modern modems will have better performance but I've managed to put off more spending for the moment.
