TheBartender: I should point out, whats most important here...

If xnet have decided this plan is not economic after all, or is consuming too much bandwidth and affecting there overall service...that is fine.

If xnet decide they need to pull this plan...or change or limit the plan...that too is fine.

But what is important, is that they front up and tell their customers this, right from the start, be honest.

I will happily change back to one of their others plans is they advise me they can no longer support the Torrent plan...

I will be happy they were honest and sorted it out from the outset, rather than let it drag on and lie to me, and they will keep my business.

If xnet do what Xtra and Woosh did with their unlimited plans...throttle the service and lie to their customers for months about the reasons for the slow speeds, only to admit months later...then xnet will loose not only customers, but their reputation.

I will be watching my speeds and this space closely.

Yeah I agree. I don`t believe they would be stupid enough to have done this, but if they have, they need to front up, can`t just keep their customers in the dark.

I`m on the torrent plan, and I only ever download stuff during the free period. When most humans tend to sleep. Leaving you bandwidth to play and watch videos etc during the day and in evenings. If I go back to 1 dollar/GB, then I will do my downloads and uploads whenever. Very likely taking away bandwidth from u when u wanna watch your videos and play your games at peak times.

I am with you on this one, Before the torrent plan I was on the $1/GB with a 50gb datacap.
Atm on torrent I download all my files offpeak when most people are asleep, but If xnet decide to end this plan I will stay with them but go back to downloading my torrents whenever,
Personly I think this will be the case with alot of leechers they will stay with xnets cheap $1/gb plan but download during the day hence slowing down traffic again

Maybe they need to tighten the free period, to, say 2am-8am. Just to allow for the few night owls who like to stay up late into the night playing their games or whatever.

This is pro, I am not a huge downloader. But recently visited my mate in Ireland. He can download a move (2 parts each 700mb) in less than 30 minutes. He has no cap, and a 20mb download speed. His upload speed is about 256kb however.

Anyway, my thoughts are this, if organised correctly, you could get someone to purchase and fill a 1TB HDD with downloads and courier it to you, cheaper and quicker than you could infact do it yourself.

This same HDD could then be shared between several people throughout NZ who can copy all or parts of its contents. Thus dividing the cost of the HDD & Courier costs between many. Hell if 5 friends did it, it would be $55 NZD each!

GO on the cheaper internet plans, and spend your savings (albeit maybee less than $100) on a new Batman action figure. =D

I got off the phone with the support desk an roughly an hour ago, and the guy on the phone confirmed the first post.

Basically they have oversubscribed the limited amount of international bandwidth for the torrent plan customers, resulting in unacceptable speeds. They are continuing to offer this plan even though at the moment unusable as its advertised usage. I was not impressed at the help desk guys too bad nothing we can do about attitude to the situation. Xnet need to confront their customers telling them the truth, and whats being done to remedy the problem. Because from my disscussion on the phone it looks like nothing is going to change in a hurry.

One hopes that they are upfront and honest in advertising that their torrent plan bandwidth is pooled, if that is the case.
So far, doesn't appear to be anything on the worldxchange website, though it could be buried in the terms and conditions.

Otherwise I predict a similar saga to Xtras Go Large, or Wooshs Go Large clone..

decrease the data cap to 60 gig
and
shorten the hour to 6 hours but no shaping!

Anyone know how much a 750Kbps international pipe costs? That's what you need to get your 75GB quota. I can see how it would get over subscribed rather quickly.

well I really think around 30gig or even 40gig per month will fix this issue

I noticed even when it's off peak I get really slow speed...

can't go above 1000kb/s if I try to connect to anywhere oversea

and during off peak it just stops working...

can't even browse web in the morning

True that, but afaik, you pay for bandwidth per 512kbit, not per gigabyte. Most isp's will have next to none usage during the offpeak hours, so why not use up the bandwidth that they pay for ?

For all you people moaning about how it was better before the torrent plan - IT WASN'T.
I can remember the speeds on peak, they have gotten better since shifting most heavy traffic to offpeak hours.

I don`t believe that it`s just oversubscription... For me things went from great to useless overnight. Something must have been done, but it makes no sense at all to limit the torrent plan`s bandwidth, cos there can`t be many people online during those free hours anyway. Would be good to know what`s really happening.

I think he pretty much pulled the plug on geekzone due to all the posts complaining about speeds etc.

What I don't understand is why the torrent plan users being blame for the sluggish speed ? In any case the torrent users
are using the bandwidth that gone to waste anyway!.

Assuming most of the bandwidth being used at off peak between 12~ 8.00 am and yet the complaint are mostly
at peaktime between 7~ 11 p.m . So how the hell the torrent users are taking off the bandwidth at peak time ?

( sorry a small number nite-owls do use the net at off peak which are not in the same pool as the torrent users if it is true
that torrent users are treated as the "GO-large plan")

I don't know anymore! ..most likely Xnet must be taking in too many new subscribers without getting more bandwidth?

Dam my first thread and so much feedback

Best thing to do with all torrent users is to ring up and log a complaint.

Tell them your not happy with the service.

No use in all us talking about it in this forum as they seem to be dodging this forum at the moment

Best thing to do is make it offical, if enough of us ring up and complain they have to do something.
