kerrin: Orcon@Home+ plans are with no contract.   Tempted to move myself after getting an invite in the post, and the current speed issues..

from their website: http://www.orcon.net.nz/faqs/orcon_llu_faq/

  • What contracts do I have to sign, and what minimum periods am I signed to?

There are no contracts! The only minimum is a one month period - if you want to leave us, you can any time - you just need to give us a month's notice. With Orcon@home+ we've tried to answer what our customers have told us they want: super-simple pricing, and not being locked in to lengthy contracts.

Thats what we are signing up to at the end of this month. Hope for the best

One might think, from this news, that Xnet was losing a few too many customers these days. I wonder why.

Also it seems Orcon have started a Naked DSL plan, I`ll have a close look at that.

Below is the email I got from Xnet helpdesk.

Hi there

This only applies to connections that have started after November, so
any new customers or customers who re-locate and connect a new
connection at another address.

hello. I am looking at orcon as well. very very tempted to move to them but there have been issues with them too right? Have seen threads where ppl are complaining that orcon does traffic management.. and their p2p and torrents arent working too well.. whats that about?

ps. orcon will also be introducing voip so thats another things that makes me keen. Im thinking of getting their silver/gold plan and adding an international destination to that. the only thing putting me off is the fact that they are into traffic management, and users complaining.

"Most people during our trial have been experiencing connection speeds of between 5Mbps and 20Mbps depending on their distance from the exchange. We are confident that we can deliver you a better broadband experience than you have previously been used to." -> from their llu faq (orcon)    ---> do they give out trials?

I don't think you will ever have an ISP with no complaning users. Wink
