No, don’t know about vectoring. But since most people have moved to fibre my connect speed has been creeping up slowly over the last 18 months or so. Definitely noticed the change to DLM a few years ago.

Actually we are getting slightly off topic. I was looking for an insight into any technical reasons for 3 days to transfer from POTS to VOIP (Other than the obvious “it’s Vodafone “). But I will post here when it actually starts working, and what happens when I thrash the connection.

To answer your question:
You are probably getting pots through a chorus/Spark wholesale service.
To switch to Vodafone voip service they’ll need to port your number. This can take a working day or more.
Once done, they then need to provision the service and push the configs to your gateway (usually very quick).

To go back, the exact opposite must occur.

Apologies for the formatting - typing on iPhone.

Once you're up and running, I'd look into VDSL then if your speeds are that good on ADSL.

The can get the voip going for outgoing calls before they do the port for incoming calls. Leaving someone with no way of making calls for 3 days is totally unacceptable and IMO they should be fixing processes so this doesnt happen.

Correct. There should be only minor disruption for changes of this nature. Clearly something has errored out and needs fixing, if this is the BAU experience it is unacceptable.

If this is the exceptional experience, there should be teams monitoring service orders that go off the rails.

Ok. Got sick of older people not ringing me on my cellphone, so I rang Vodafone. Wasn't much of a wait, but they couldn't get it to go. So we had to do a hard reset back to factory defaults, which then made VOIP work. Obviously I had do redo a few settings to my liking, but overall so far it is working really good. Can't fault call quality so far while doing usual internet things. Haven't tried it on a Torrent download, but I normally throttle them back anyway to stop slow web browsing.

Glad I rang them cause don't think they would have rung me!

Good to hear @Beavis, just a pity that it took so long.

Given that Vodafone ported you over to VoIP, you would have hoped that they would have done an automated 'post connection' check to ensure that your modem has picked up the profile or at least checked for a SIP registration.

good on you for persevering with and finding a solution with Vodafone.  I've given up trying to deal with them.
