MikeB4:

VTV works fine on WIFI. We have ours connected by WIFI and like the OP doing wired ethernet is not an option.

But what other devices are on your WiFi network contending for bandwidth, this we dont know as is the case with Ray's setup. WiFi is not a very optimum transport if you are wanting low packet loss, low jitter and modest throughput (as streaming does) a slightly contended wifi network is not overly noticed in its poor performance when just browsing or email etc, but if you want to stream it needs to be pretty clean for packetloss and jitter. If you have lots of clients (even a few) on the same band/AP those requirements can quickly go out the window.

So to say WiFi works fine at mine may not cover the situation, just saying.

Ray, do you know which band the VTV is using 2.4 or 5GHz, if its 2.4 then maybe try force it to 5GHz, this is typically cleaner and has higher capacity assuming its set for 40MHz bandwidth. Also try check that other nearby APs are not sitting on the same channels as yours.

So I still come back to my orginal comment, it would be good to test live TV, in particular from Sky Sports via ethernet and compare with WiFi to see if it is infact part of the issue.

Note: Gen 2 only supports 5 GHz I think.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

@cyril7 Thanks for your last comment.

The gen 2 box is connected at 5ghz. Other connected devices on wifi include a laptop on 5ghz and mobile. It is typical throughout the week that they will be actively using the wifi at the same time but we have not experienced any problems at any time other than when watching the rugby.

I will run the ethernet cable across for the next game.

Still leaves the question though, if as seems to be the opinion of this group that the fault (VTV video freezes and then screen goes blank) is due to micro dropouts on wifi not being handled correctly by the VTV box, what is my solution?

Speedtest app run using the wifi link from my laptop shows 102Mbps down and 24Mbps up. Will increasing the VF plan speed from 100Mbps download provide any potential improvement?

What is the likelihood of it being recognised as an issue with the VTV box itself?

Hi, well thats the great unknown, what issues lurk within the VTV's firmware, or more importantly the Sky/Voda streaming service. What we also dont know, is how many others had similar issues, we dont see major complaints here or on the Voda forum, so my guess is not many.

As for upping the plan to a gig plan, doubt it will help, these streams are in the 5-6Mb/s region, even if it cracked 10Mb/s increasing your upstream rate will not make a dot of differnce.

As for my comments, I am just trying to rule out the WiFi leg, its a common weak point, so yes a good plan is to rule it out with a wired connection, that then gives you good evidence to esculate to Voda........................ good luck with that :)
