insane: hello good people, just to let you know that an ISPs mail platforms are not the same as your companies exchange server sitting in the corner of the office behind a mail-marshal box. There are Mail host(s) aka the smtp and pop3 /IMAP servers that you have visability over, mail routers and dependant on design other anti-virus and anti-spam systems in place so the platform is rather complex really.

If your company has its servers in the corner of your office, then you got some issues there. And just because its ISP email is not an excuse for a crap service.

If you dont like the level of service from xnet, then you need to spend more money on an ISP that meets your expectations.

Yes you could change ISP, however that is a major inconvience. It is also costly if you have to pay a disconnection fee, and then a churn fee to change to the new ISP. It also shouldn't be required if the ISP is doing what they are being paid for.

Changing ISP's is a one off inconvenience, far less of an inconvenience than putting up with a service that constantly frustratesb you. If you're that broke you can’t afford some fee's to change, then you getting what you can afford. Why cant people understand this? You are paying for a discounted budget service.

Don't know what you are all moaning about...we have had no problems with Xnet, other than the outages the other day, and email has been working fine at work and at home.
I've been with Xnet for over 2 years now and am very happy.

Agreed! I have used xnet on and off over the last few years, always been good, my parents are on xnet and it works just fine for them. If you have a look thru these forums, in recent times its probably safe to say xnet has not been meeting the expectations of heavy users that appear to expect a premium service 24/7 for next to nothing.

I can tell you now that webmail from Mon 1500 to Thurs 1000 was not working probably at all. This was published by WxC themselves. During that period my webmail was unusable. Maybe you were using POP3 or IMAP mail ? [I think IMAP had issues too but I only use webmail]

I agree other than the before mentioned Webmail issues I have been relatively happy. I did not even complain like everyone else about the Intnl bandwidth issues

I'm a business user and have two accounts, one with xnet, and one with telecom. The telecom one has far better speeds and hasn't had the outgaes that xnet have had. You wouldn't know ablout xnets problems if you weren't using the internet at the time they occurred, as they have removed any mention of the problems from their website.

I have also had billing issues with xnet which were never resolved, and they don't reply to email support tickets.

How do you know that they are heavy users who are complaining. The issues affect viewing things such as simple youtube videos. I probably use 10GB of traffic per month, so am a light user who mainly uses bandwidth for downloading podcasts

If you parents are anything like mine, they only use the interent for email and the occasional website, and use it perhaps up to an hour a day at night, so they probably wouldn't have ben using it when it went down.

Correct! xnet's level of service and pricing meets their expeations for internet.

If you want business grade service, you need goto the likes of ICONZ/Maxnet/etc.

At least Xnet staff don't go changing your email/login password whenever they feel like it to get access to your account.
Which is what happened to one of my clients who are with Telecom.
Telecom did email the new password to my client but of cause they couldn't check their email as the password was wrong!

Which is what happened to one of my clients who are with Telecom.
Telecom did email the new password to my client but of cause they couldn't check their email as the password was wrong!

Haha Orcon did the same to me when I emailed them asking to reset my Cosmos password, they reset it, and emailed the passoword to my Orcon account, for which I then couldnt login to! The guy I talked to on the phone at Orcon was like lol, yeh it happens!

Never heard of Telecom/Xtra doing that to accounts, I would say it was an isolated incident.

So browsing the net at a reasonable speed, watching youtube without pausing it and letting it buffer, and having an email service is an unrealistic expectation of a heavy user now?

I dont seem have made it quite clear enough, so let me spell it out for you:

If you want fast reliable flatout internet 24/7, you'll need to chose an ISP that provides that level of service. Chances are, going with one of the cheaper ISP options will not net that result at peak times.

Hopefully by now Ceil Alexancer [their CEO] is aware of the consequences of these issues and resulting publicity and takes steps to ensure I will remain a customer

You get what you pay for, if you are not happy, you are not paying enough/with the right ISP.

Ok, so if wanting to use the internet for the basic tasks listed before needs an ISP that provides " that level of service" then what exactly are xnet providing with their bufferfest and slow loading pages?

How can you be defending an ISP that is selling a product called "High speed internet" that cannot even play a low quality youtube video at 2pm on a weekday without it stopping several times?
