Guessing it is mainly affecting iphone users complaining, as the network name isn't showing at the top of my android but does at the top of on my iphone.

Depends on the Android. If its a fairly older one, they don't usually change (old Huawei etc). My S21 FE changed to the new network name

I personally couldn't care less about the wahs, but I'm surprised by how much this has riled some. One are free to do whatever they please (within bounds of law), and they've decided this is how they'd like to support one of their corporate sponsorships.

I am intrigued that as a Kogan subscriber, it still shows One NZ rather than Upthewahs.

Yeah, mine shows Vodafone NZ too, Pixel 6a. Why hasn't it change to One NZ and subsequently to Up The Wahs?

Ditto (on an S21U), but I have to admit I only noticed it this morning; had it changed earlier?

[Edit: Just checked again and it was saying 'KOGAN MOBILE'! Showed that a couple of times and now back to Wahs...]

I'm in earshot of the IT helpdesk at work and someone's just come up in a panic because their "phone's been hacked" due to this message showing up of its own accord.

This kind of sets a precedent to using the carrier name indicator for marketing purposes, like some carriers do overseas. I don't like it.

Wish they would just change from ONE to a name with a few syllables.

Many might think from past experience with VF that even Wazoo would have been more appropriate. I'm very happy with One lately so my only complaint is their name.

Getting back on topic, maybe they can keep this Up the Wahs for good, it beats One.

"Which network are you with?"

"Up the Wahs"

"Yeah, all good, but which network are you with?"

"Up the Wahs!"

"Look mate. I'm as fond of the Warriors as the next guy, but I just want to know which network you're with!"

"Um...Up the Wahs?"

*punch*

Same response as when IT changed the VPN software without informing users... lots of calls about an unknown software popping up and making connections!

Actually this situation is more similar to when Mozilla launched a "study" which installed an add-on advertising a random TV show... of course anyone even remotely security conscious thought they'd been compromised by some kind of malware or adware.

A second person was a little calmer: "I think my kids have fiddled with it". I wonder what sort of tech support burden this change has caused nationwide.

Mozilla seems to be on some sort of quest to drive away as many customers as possible, but we're drifting towards the Off Topic forum now :)

Yip had to deal with that this morning with senior management asking what we had done to their phones. Thanks One marketing dept.
