Rickles:

Perhaps a kindly GZ local could talk to or visit him with sage advice

There's plenty of helpful advice here already, if they would just come back to read and engage with it.

Thank you very much for your responses. Please bear with me while I try to answer (and please do not hesitate to ask for clarifications):

Yes, I have 2 separate internet ‘connections’ on my firefox browser; they reach my home via a single fibre cable. One for [email removed],  the other for [email removed]. They coexisted happily for years on the firefox browser without bothering each other.

Both 2degrees and OneNZ are fiber, the latter is ‘unlimited fiber 500’. I believe to remember that it  was added earlier this year, when my son gave me a smartwatch, so an alarm could be raised in case I took a fall on my walks (luckily did not get tested in earnest).

[Mod edit (MF): removed email accounts to preserve privacy]

@prhnz say what? Why would you get an extra internet connection for a smartwatch? this make zero sense and sounds like a waste of $$

Or I have misread your post

Dear Forum, I am overwhelmed and happy to receive such a response, ĺthankĝ you all very much

Right now my problem appears to be resolved - don't ask me to describe how. I am. Grateful for the suggestions to rationalize my setup and save money in the process. Just now the start of a multigenerational family holiday beckons, I wish you all a great festive season. In the new year, I will return to the topic and report on insights and suggestions and maybe solutions.

Your concern an

d support is much appreciated.

Hi @prhnz - Have you tried talking to your son?

Perhaps he can clarify things for you - I am sure he would want to help you.

It would be very odd that you should have 2 'wired' (fibre) internet connections.

Was the 2 degrees the original connection you had?

Thanks  @robjg63 , excellent advice, as the family comes together from all corners of the globe, there will be ample opportunity for discussion about networks - and more....

They are arriving, must rush to meet them!

Cheers

Dear all, the festivities are over and I had a try at resolving my confusion. My internet connection appears to be stable, and with your help I might be able to make sense of  it all.  Thanks for trying to resolve my confusions, and with your help I might even save some money,  thank you…

The desired outcome is a stable connection to the internet, with the added inclusion of ‘falls notification’ via my Samsung smartwatch (the latter being possible via the settings on the Samsung watch). Presently internet is working, so what remains is the question if one or the other of my connections is superfluous

My connections:

2degrees:  unlimited fibre 500.  Monthly about $77

OneNZ:       endless starter.          Monthly about $55

Originally I believe I was only with 2deg, then OneNZ was added to supply the ‘falls detection’ which 2deg said they could not do. --- but my memory could be wrong.

Happy to provide more info if required.

Thanks for your help, and apologies if my attempts to explain myself were confusing.

Okay so it looks like you've got a Fibre connection through 2 degrees, and a Mobile Pay Monthly through One. Makes sense, I was worried it'd be Fibre + Wireless Broadband or Fibre X2.

What model of Samsung watch do you have? Does your One NZ bill include a Watch service as well? (Might be listed as OneNumber on the bill)

Sounds like they got the One NZ postpaid service to have smart watch (OneNumber) support which - until recently 2d did not offer.

Yeah that's why I'm asking about model (although IIRC 2degrees supported the Samsung watches for a while, but maybe not OPs particular model).
