I'm not on Fusion myself, I've always seen the rural charge listed on their site which gives no advantage over Telecom so didn't consider it. Were they just not charging that rate until now?

Anyway, re: the cost of rural, it does seem a bit rich charging more when we're still on Conklins and lucky to get 1.5Mbps despite sync rates 4-5 times that. I wouldn't mind paying more so much if what you got in return was service parity, but a degraded service for more money is a bit of a hard sell.

I was also on Naked DSL at one stage until the changes came through on the classification of Urban and so-called "Rural" exchanges. For the price that they were going to put it up to (~$90), I found I could get FS/FS and 20GB WITH a phone service. It really was a no-brainer in deciding to switch back to the convenience of a landline and broadband - the extra data just topped it off...

sbiddle: You can only assume that Slingshot have decided not to differentiate between rural and urban customers and lose money on rural customers.

Or they haven't noticed the increased telecom bill yet....

Maybe SS are waiting to see what Orcon and Xnet are going to do first before they make their move. I guess it would come down to the ratio of urban : rural customers they have. At least with 12 month contracts you have up to 12 months protection from a customer walk-off.
