Ragnor: I starting to think the best choice for gamers is going to be Maxnet naked DSL and 2talk for phone. Telecom's lack of local peering is still as bad as Telstra's right?

The annoying thing is telstraclear used to be perfect for gamers, and its nice and flexible on data as well as fast download speeds. This routing is the only thing killing it for me.

Maxnets offerings are too much
Telstra 20gb Max/Max - $68, then $12 for 10gb extra
Maxnet 20gb Max/Max - $80 then $10 for 2gb extra!!!

I believe in you get what you pay for, but thats crazily expensive in comparison.

I used to play a fair bit of DoD:S on Internode - no longer :(

What I have noticed in the last week or so is that I now lose connectivity to DoD:S in QLD every 6-7 mins for a period of 10-15secs - very frustrating.

Very annoying problem -  I donated $100 to an Aussie gaming server that I can no longer play on! Ah well, hopefully something changes soon.

Argh wtf. I started up COD4 for the first time in a while (due to university holidays), and find 200-300ms in-game ping to internode servers (which are great cause they are usually quite full, and ping used to be good). Standard command line ping is ~165 to the same IP, appearing to route via HONG KONG :(

I would have thought that seeing as how TCL pays(?) Reach for the international transit, surely part of the agreement is that Reach routes traffic via reasonable (ie low ping) routes?

oh Did I hear you say Maxnet ... Not sure which server in particular you were referring to but yeah, seems ok ;)

Just remember that routing changes over time.. ISPs manage traffic as they see fit, use the upstream providers they want and once out of their networks the path traffic takes is out of their control.
