The more I think about this, the less it makes sense that the reason is the body painted girls. Surely Google, of all companies realise that pulling a product will generate more publicity then any photos posted on a blog (Streisand effect). The Computer World article also mentions Apple not being happy at the launch being so close to the iphone - surely this would have been an issue months ago and would have been resolved then rather then a week after the launch, so that couldn't be the reason.

The reason could be the photos of the launch party - but it just seems too much of an excessive response.

Erm, none of this makes any sense. Why would they pull the phone because of some body painted girls? It's utterly consequential, and considering the phone has a great stonking GOOGLE logo written over it, I can't see why Google would object to their name/logo being used.

It just seems some less educated folk have started some baseless rumour and it's being spread in typical fashion. Does anyone have any REAL reasons why this phone may have been "pulled"? It seems that inventory levels is a much more plausable explination.

Supply issues? If you have supply issues you wouldn't pull existing stock from store shelves, would you? And you wouldn't pull all the informational material from your website, you'd just put a message on the order page saying how popular the phone was and encouraging people order so they are guaranteed to get one from the next shipment.

I do agree though that pulling items from sale because of something to do with a launch party makes very little sense too.

Google having a problem with their logo being on the back of the phone, that is plausible (if by some mistake it hadn't been approved).

I agree - it's possible arrangements weren't finalised or some licensing details were overlooked on release. Makes a lot more sense than inconsequential launch party shenanigans.

Thet've retracted the 'Supply issue' comment now.

As to the Google logo on the phones, they're 'Google Experience' phones. (One of the three options for vendors to deploy Android phones)

ALL the Vodafone Magics around the world have the Google logo on the back. It's HTC that doesn't get a look in.

There are stricty rules on how to use logos and trademarks. The phones have Google all over them but you don't see the Google logo over naked girls. It's very different use.
