My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
sultanoswing: dolsen: I had a very similar sounding problem - but the trouble turned out to be a dying modem: yes the good old RTA1320 had burnt its capacitors, meaning it couldn't hold an internet connection (and who knows, if the right caps burn, it may have trouble through it's LAN port too).
Replacing them, the connection to the WAN stabilised, and I could stop blaming my newly acquired WRT54GS (with Tomato firmware, of course). Can I assume you've flashed your WRT54G to that, or another 3rd party firmware, which are more stable and with more options. I just had 28 days uptime, and my connection was reset by Xnet, not locally.
Of course you could actually have a dying WRT54G :)
You can never have enough Volvos!
Niel: Dolsen:
For over 2 years no problem at all with my WRTP54GP2. Note there are different hardware revisions and I did get one of the later ones, but can't remember any details.
Niel:
You can have a faulty power adapter. Linksys does not make them, they buy an adapter with their name on it and relies on the power adapter manufacturer to test it. In my job I've dealt with evaluating power adapter manufacturers by opening up their engineering samples - shocking what bad and even dangerous engineering samples you receive from some companies. Even illegal designs. Anyway, my point is perhaps the power adapter is failing and dumping excessive noise into the router.
