It's cheaper to just pay for 40GB overuse on the 80GB plan than to upgrade to the 120GB. And if you're happy with 10Mbps as most people seem to be, then this 25Mbps plan is worthless.

As has been said before, the Warpspeed plan is just politics. They don't actually want anyone on it, as the network couldn't handle it if many were.

What makes you say that?  It's clearly the result of a network upgrade, else why ChCh first and now Wellington. Of course one could argue that it's all a pissing contest with VDSL since they can advertise the speed is there, but nobody will take it up because of cost.

And given what has been discussed in other threads about their peering behaviour, having all this speed for say watching NZ TV online hardly helps when much of the time, the traffic has to take a trip to the US anyway.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

It's still using the old DOSCIS standard however - which does have many limitations and bottlenecks.

Once the DOSCIS3 rollout is complete and TCL can take advantage of the channel bonding then offering faster services becomes a whole lot easier.

Has anyone here actually used the Warpspeed plan in Wellington? I'm thinking about signing up for a month just to see what a difference it makes.

more likely to stave off FTTH investment in the areas where TCL has cable delivered.  If there was a choice between FTTH (100/100) and Cable (100/10 or 100/25) then, obviously, the cable plans are going to have to cost less...

I would be happy with 100/10 or 100/25 if the price is right. It's hard to see what use one could make of any speed faster than that for home use.

Allan Freeth makes me say that:

We’ve had 25Mbps sitting in a city of 250,000 people and we’ve had less than 20 people take it up. It’s an expensive product because under the present DOCSIS2 [Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications]configuration it’s cost us quite a bit of money and it takes quite a lot of ‘node capacity’ to provide it to those customers so we’ve priced it accordingly, because if 500 people said they wanted it then we’d have a problem.

Im in Christchurch on ADSL2 (7.6mb down) and im very happy with my download speed. If i could change anything it would be my upload which is currently stuck right on 1mb.

7.6mb or 5mb for that matter is fine, for pritty much everything you do on the internet currently. Sure itll be nice in the future to have a higher speed but for me personally id much prefer an upload speed boost.

It brings a whole lot of other uses for your internet into the equation. Not to mention it helps me a lot as some one who regularly works with servers.

If you had a bigger upload you could:

Host your web site from home (generally not practical for businesses, but for some organisations/home users)
Host your own game servers
Stream your home content at a mates
Well just generally access your content anywhere.

Wouldnt that be nice.

For business connections sure a bigger download is helpful, but when you only have up to 4 users using the internet at once is it that important to go that extra step? Its not like you can download off a server at a full 24mbps.
