Maybe I should have done a bit more research rather than getting sucked in by the press release which lead me to believe we were going to finally see cheap data rates..:-)

Does anybody know what deals in any Vodafone have signed in NZ for content distribution?

sbiddle: EUR10 per month for 30MB over 3GSM - I wonder if this is going to be the start of great things to come when it comes to mobile data?

as screen resolution increases, and so does video sizes, how long would it take to chew through 30MB? maybe 1 hour of television? (gotta include the ads)
pay NZ$20 to see one star trek episode?

it's gotta fall a long way further yet.

at a modest 100kbps stream you will chew about 6MB p/hour. Not to bad really.

Nokia and Telefonica of Spain will run DVB-H from September... As commented before, there's no data usage, except the mobile operator being the company in charge of billing for the service and providing support to the technology.

Same as Telia Sonera is doing in Finland.

Vodafone here in australia have 500megs of data for $50, at that price point, I would watch it every day.,. and I have downloaded a few cool clips (GPRS is too slow for streaming and telstra is a ripoff) 3 network here have Big Brother LIVE for just $3 a month live steaming video. people buy phones just for that!!!!!!!!

I have tried streaming mp4, WMV and 3gp with my Telecom harrier and it works sweet. so it's kinda cool, however it needs to "on demand though" like run from say 5:30 PM of 7:30 PM so it's like a DVR, if you miss the news you can just catch it on ya mobile. there is no point being stuck in traffic at 6:00 and trying to watch the news there,, Argh!

Telecom hit the nail there with the news reports..

So a startrek episode will cost me about $48 to watch on my cellphone :-(
now i remember why i'm on prepay - no huge bills caused by boredom.
