steve98: I really loathe this advert. If there's anything worse than a big greedy corporate trying to
mimic the look and feel of a viral YouTube-typevideo, it's one where the subject of the video is not even possible. Even with the most finely-tuned network in the world (and we all know that Voda NZ are a far cry from that) you definitely couldn't rely on the instant delivery of text messages in that way. So what are we supposed to be in awe at? Some synchronized lights? Wow.

So only small companies can do viral?

And what am I meant to be in awe at in other viral videos? People dancing at a wedding? One baby hitting another?

And any apologies about talking sh*t about something you clearly know nothing about, and have been proved wrong?

simon14: This is very well done, but i'm still wondering what the point of it is?

Or is there no real point?

You cant be serious?

Have you heard of a thing called marketing?

I was expecting to see some sort of new product or service. Doesn't really change my life that much, but still nice all the same :)

MISguru: Vodafone,

how about stop wasting money and offer cheaper rates.

Do vodafone tell you how to spend your money i suggest you stop and think before posting

John
Well they do actually... I'd rather spend my money on $10 for unlimited txts on vodafones network, but I cant because you make it $10 for 2000 txts.... It would cost you nearly nothing to provide this. If att in the states can do unlimited calls, txts and data for $1USD a day, then you can atleast lower the txt prices..

Where do people come up with this statistic that it costs nothing to provide txts? Also AT&T have 79 MILLION subscribers, nearly 20 times the population of NZ, perhaps that has something to do with it...

If its all so easy, set up a network, and I'll gladly pay $1 a day for unlimited calls, txt, an data. Show me where to sign.

I kinda like it, only for the innovativeness, as I havent seen anything like it..  As far as marketing goes it must be considered a success as it has spread well and has quite a few people talking. Aslo the 1812 Overture is a crazy piece of music.

To drag up the old VF-TNZ comparison, the XT ads I was indifferent to, if not slighty annoyed by them. Bloody Richard Hammond....

But i suppose they were for different reasons, one was just viral marketing, and the other was trying to introduce a new service.

(and the VF ad wont end with complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority, hint hint XT people)

Jeez, I was actually emphasizing the point that they actually do tell us how to spend our money when it comes to our cellphone. And John, thats real mature... Typical Vodafone though, why am I surprised... Not like "the customer is always right" with you lot

tardtasticx, nearly every service provider (mobile, isp etc) determines the services (and cost) they wish to provide...

if you don't like the service you get for your $10 perhaps you should look at other providers.

I am a Vodafone employee, however all comments/opinions expressed are my own. i.e. I do not represent Vodafone.

Ahhh some common sense. Such a rare commodity these days.

In truth I used to think the same way... Until I ran my own business, and realised the money it takes just to be open.

Everything's that way these days, does food cost what restaurant charge? Of course not, if they did they wouldnt make money.
That's the price you pay, to get someone to do something for you, better than you could do it yourself..

I was just proving a point... anyways, Its not exactly easy to switch providers in NZ... Nearly everyone I know is on vodafone, exept for 2 (my parents, work pays for their phones though), and no one will message me back if im on telecom, or 2degrees because of the on-network txting thing...

I consider having people not text me as a bonus since i get sick of people texting wanting a reply when the message is nothing that will benefit me..

The fact that some others may not want to text you if you move is just something you have to weigh up against whining about what vodafone does with what you spend with them.

Are you on a contract that would have penetlys if you were to move?

Yes, I signed for 24 months about... 3 months ago? around that. So yeh, Vodafone is kinda my only choice ATM, and since I just brought this new phone, I can only use voda and 2D, telecoms unlimited txt would be a great option for me, but the break fee's and not having people able to txt me back is a big problem, anyways, this is getting off topic now,

do what most people in your situation do (and have done for years), have a phone for each network.

There's are reasons vodafone only offers the 2000 texts for internally.  I can't remember what the txt termination rate is so I'm going to pretend it's 7 cents, so lets say you sent all 2000 txt's to another network, that's 140 dollars it would cost them to give you your 10 dollars worth.  Sure they'll make money back off texts coming back in (more so now that telecom have 'unlimited' texting again) but it appears they aren't interested in doing that and as far as I remember vodafone has never had an unlimited texting plan.

Or pay 10 dollars for 100 meg a month and msn/facebook/email everyone instead.
