- What will the coverage be? unknown.
- What will the data rates be, downlink and uplink? And how is this affected by heavy voice usage? 64Kbps uplinks, 384 Kbps downlink, not really affected by voice usage, well not in NZ's small base anyway and certainly not with these slow rates.
- What will latency be? 120-200 ms
- What new 3G pricing plans? unknown
- What will work when roaming, e.g. 3G video calls?
- With a 3G PC data card, can you do video calls? Will need some PC application cause the data card will be a full 3G 'phone'. PC App. you could use software to "emulate" a phone though i doubt it'll work.
- When will we get first Windows Moible 5 + 3G device that supports video calls? Hmmm I can't wait...
- Are video calls actually useful or cool? Will they bring about a new paradigm in calling or just be a niche application? A novelty in my opinion. has it's uses but limited.
- How much extra for a video call over a normal voice call? same hopefully, that's the way in australia

Vodafones problem here is PrePay users are treated like paupers, cheap, low-end users and are charged the same riduculous rates regardless of how much they spend..
The account users are inundated with complex rates, restrictive, controlling "free minutes for XXX dollars" plans and have no bundles on any other services except data.

PrePay is cheap to run, Self sufficient, low maintenence Vodafone here should really get a clue!
Vodafones cureent plan is to swith people to on-account... why?

Australia have got the nail on the head, it's a near perfect solution.
One rate for all. keep it simple. , 1c a second, 25c SMS, 50c MMS BUT........
Prepay's the same plans and rates as account
You can switch numbers without penalty.
You have "auto top-ups" on prepay so you never are caught short.
You spend jack all, vodafone will charge you a nasty rate to keep you leeching.,
You spend a lot, Vodafone will roll out the red carpets in the form of Caps,
$50 gives you $230 credit, $79 gives you $500, $150 gives you $1200 credit.. that's 2000 anytime minutes for just $150

To add some fuel to the fire I was speaking to a mate who works in a retail store last night. All dealers that are in a 3G coverage area had to have put all staff through the 3G training before yesterday. They were lead to believe that a launch would probably be occuring within the next month. There was also some speculation of more bundled deals like Vodafone oz have, you would expect Vodafone to have a complete overhaul of plans for the launch so if we are going to see some bundled plans in NZ things could get exciting!

I wonder if the new plans will affect standard GSM or just 3G? (Don't really want to dump the p910 just to get better pricing.)

Palmerston North. Voda shop in 'the plaza', Digital Mobiles on the square and First Mobile in Downtown shopping mall.

They have the '3G' displays out there (with voda live! on them), but no phones are on them.

Haven't checked a few other shops which are a little bit further away but I might have a look.

Yea, I noticed they had the big "3G" logo up under the plasma screen they have there last week.
So maybe that means 3G comming soon,and 3G in palmy??????
