Sounds like a Sonny Ericsson could be a option as the P910i is a great all round device.

I like Nokia and I had no issues with the 6680 when I was using it. The n90 looks like a brick it would pull shorts down. Ha ha

What about the “Hermione”, their much-rumored update of the P910, is most definitely on its way. They were able to confirm that the Hermione will have 3G (we’re guessing UMTS), as well as a one or two megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and WiFi (”definitely WiFi”). They also mentioned that the keyboard on the Hermione will not flip down like on the P910, but will be on the phone body itself (true to leaked photos), and that the amount of memory on the Hermione will likely be “in the gigabyte range”.

Yes, I have heard of the new Sony Ericsson PDA phone, but it'll be months before it finally comes out. I am fed up of waiting to be honest - have waited for a month now since my phone was accidentally sold too early, hahaha.

Well, the N90 is big but I wouldn't say it's heavy because there are heavier phones. If you actually hold the N90, it doesn't feel that heavy really and you would be surprised with the feel of it - very easy to hold. I would be happy to have a "heavier" phone as it has everything that I need - PDA, flip phone, 3G, great screen, great camera, great video, good OS etc.

I think maybe in 2-3 years' we'll see an all-round device with all the fuctions in the world and it'll only be 100g.

In the meantime... N90... hahaha... and if it does pull my pants down, does that mean I am allowed to eat more? Hahaha.

Cool yeah if I had the cash I would be taking a hard look at the n90 and would splash out as I really do like Nokia's and they Nokia seem to have got their mojo back with phones.

Well look forward to your reveiw of the phone.

Yep, you got what I mean there with Nokia phones - they got their "mojo" back!

Ah, also what I like about Nokia phones is that they can be setup very easily! Eg. GPRS, SMS etc. Their menus and fuctions are user-friendly.

Hey, since I am new here, is there a way of uploading photos onto this forum? Perhaps I can show you guys some photos of and from the phone later.

Also I sttand corrected I happened came across this site which compares a 6680 to the n90 and looks about the same size. Dose not look like a brick afterall.

Hi there Heavenly Wild.

If you are switching from Imate Jam to Nokia, be prepared that the Nokia Sync Conduit software isn't as good as ActiveSync for Outlook.

I had Nokia 3650 and I have always used Nokia's phones, but when it comes to synchronising contacts and tasks and calendar with Outlook to Nokia, it's a big dissapointment... as first off, the contact in Nokia's phone book doesn't map properly to Outlook's contacts field. You best get a 3rd party software to do that which isn't native and very buggy. (I used OPM and was a hassle to get all fields mapped properly.)

Which is why I use Imate Smartphone2 in the end. And my next upgrade is JasJar. it is worth getting. I'd never go back to Nokia UNLESS they decided to use ActiveSync conduit and synch better with Outlook.

So be ready to expect a fallback in Outlook Syncing when you move towards Nokia's phone.

Oh the other point, if you want Vodafone NZ 3G Live services, you be better to get them from Vodafone NZ. Vodafone Australia does not have the same firmware as Vodafone NZ, so you can't connect to NZ's Vodafone 3G Live portal for NZ's specific 3G Live services. Again, be warned.

Personal opinion, I'd use WM5.0 devices because of WMP10 and WMA/MP3 supports compare to just MP3 on Nokia's. and it's all natively supported by Windows, and you can even use WMP10 on Windows to sync your playlist to your WM5.0 devices. Very easy and one-stop shop approach. :-)

Regarding Active Sync, you would be surprised by how much it has improved! I recently used a Nokia 6680 and it synched with my Outlook flawlessly and quickly (correctly mapping all fields). In fact, I found it easier than the i-mate Jam. The Jam often caused my Outlook to have duplicate calendar records. So from my 6680 experience, it shouldn't be a problem.

You see, I like i-mate JAM and the i-mate JASJAR, but a big turn-off for me with these devices is: it's reception and sound quality. Reception was poor and the sound quality (more specifically, voice call quality) was very "tinny".

Yes, you are right, i-mate devices do support all audio formats, which is handy. With the N90, I will have to re-rip all my CDs into the computer and change the WM Player's settings: "format" --> "MP3 standard". It's a little inconvenient but I guess it's ok.

When I do get the Nokia N90, I would not be using Vodafone Live at all because as I mentioned previously I reckon it's a waste of money using that. I would load my own mp3s into the phone.

cool. looks like Nokia actually does use Activesync license that they got from MS. mmm good approach.

As for JasJar's reception and quality, it works great on my smartphone2 and from the review, JasJar has a superb quality with voice and reception would be great too (if they maintain the quality from Smartphone2)

Anyhow, I am looking forward to JasJar. I have outlived the smartphone and ready to head onto PDA phone era.

I used to have IPaq 3850 and Nokia phone and had to use infraRed to use CSD to browse internet!!! those were the days. LOL

Well, Imate served me well and I will continue with them. :-D imagine WiFi, BT, 3G, GPRS/GSM all in one... :-D

p/s: "PDA" features on smartphone-alike aren't the same. first, you will have to use keyboard entry which can be quite inconvenient.... and try using stylus to write when moving/walking isn't easy either, but probably the best is thumbboard+stylus combi. :-D

Hey good discussion!

The main reason why I gave up on my i-mate JAM was soley due to the fact that I had to tap tap tap to get the letters in! Boy, was it frustrating especially when you are walking or... (shhh driving, hahahaha).

I find the keypad of regular mobile phones much easier to use. Although I have to press more buttons, I find that it's less straining on my eyes.

Speaking of strain... you know I was going to get the JASJAR until... until I found out that they still have not managed to enhance / upgrade the virtual keyboard (inputting characters by tapping onto the grid). Even in the new WM 5.0, it is still very small to read and to aim with the stylus. There are 3rd party software out there and I have tried them; none worked very well.

The thumb keyboard on the JASJAR is a good addition. For those who walk and type, it may not be 100% convenient. Then again, once your thumbs are used to it, it may be simple:)

I wonder when the i-mate JARJAR will arrive in NZ. It's out in the Uk and apparently it's due out here Oct/Nov.

In the meantime, I look forward to owning a phone (first and foremost) with smartphone capabilities, all in one device - Nokia N90.

Smartphone on Nokia isn't new, Nokia has smartphone since the release of Symbian phone, 7650 and 3650.. So N90 isn't anything new, even with 3650 i can play MP3 too...

You know you don't have to use Virtual Keyboard for input, the Block Recognising and Handwriting recognition are good, I use Handwriting recognition when I am going to write alot (while seated) otherwise I use Block and Letter recognising. Of course not when driving...

I think MS next input should be virtual keypad input, emulating the keypad on the phones. hehehe

Well, if I had the money, I would definitely get the JASJAR as well as the N90. It would be a good match to have both for different occasions.

I am sure the i-mate JAM won't be my last.

I look forward to owning a Nokia for now - I haven't owned a Nokia since the Sharp mobiles came out for the first time in NZ.

i have always used Nokia, and now Imate.. with an exception... I used Motorola once, the early Bellsouth brick sort. which is ugly and user unfriendly as hell... oh i lied too, and Ericson once too, again, tiny but so unfriendly...

today, no phone can match Nokia's user friendly menu. or Windows Mobile's intuitive Pocket PC interface or Smartphone interface too...

(Palm's system? I could never understand it...)
