done talking to TCL.

Okay...

  • you MUST have phone service if you want to move up to new plan.

  • you CAN stay at the current plan if you already are using cable internet.

  • you CAN have separate phone jack installed for TCL's phone service without alteration to your Telecom's phone jack, however you MUST specified it is a NEW installation, not change-over from Telecom to TCL.

Personally i don't see that as too bad. But then again I already have my phone with them. Kind of rude if you don't though.

I already use TCL for cable, TV and phone. I always wanted to ditch the phone and go landline-less, I guess I can't now.

I can't change plans to leave the cable-modem rental behind either, because my current plans is the one charging 1/10 for New Zealand traffic...

i might just stay on current plan until my digital tv service term runs out. then i'll switch back to telecom in may 2006.

(anyone know what's the limit on how many sky digital decoder can you have in a house? will a single dish be powerful enough to provide signal strength for 3 digital decoders?)

I think TCL lately has done a lot of stupid things... Digital TV service is not that great... Cable Internet is taking big step back with its offering....

davidcole: I just looked as well. Looks like they've got a lot more plans now...slightly better pricing structure than previously.

I pay about $130 for phone, digital tv (+sport) 10 Gb of 256k internet incl modem rental.

And the national/international break out was good, especially for nz gaming.

I prefer the Telecom "slow you down" when you hit cap than TCLs charge you over you're usage.

I am considering their 10 gb at 2mb, especially if the modem rental has gone.

Did anyone see this advertised?? I only saw it on Geekzone.

I have been TCL triple service for about 3 years. My internet plan was the earlier 256/256 10G plan. I just called today and switched to their 2MB/2MB 10G plan. This will cost me about $25 extra a month but I hope the speed will be worth it. I had to change my IP address but since I don't have a web server or ftp server that isn't a big deal.

On a related topic I am thinking of moving to digital TV. They are lowering the installation cost to $99 vs $200. I have two analogue cable boxes and if you have one digital and one analogue the second box is only $9.95 versus $19.95 for a second analogue box if your first box is also analogue. So in effect the increase in monthly rental will only be about $15

I was the same and did the same today as well.

I'll see how it goes, I think they may have screwed how up much they quoted me. If it's more than I thought I'll drop down to the 4 gb.

I have an interesting situation. I had just about reaached my 10G limit for the month on the old plan with about 3 days to go before the new allocation kicks in. Customer support told me on several occasions that once the new plan kicked in, a completely new allocation would start, to be renewed when my monthly cycle ended. So with 3 days to go, 10G to play with and a 2Mb speed I have been doing a bit of downloading :-)

Of course Paradise has sent me a mail saying I have gone over my limit and the online usage meter doesn't show my usage has been reset - it's ticking over 10G.

So what happens when the bill arrives and they sock me for 20c/mb! I will be on the phone to customer support in a flash

The quote you have just mentioned and what you have done are two different things. Monthly plans can only be changed at the time of your billing cycle, ie your new plan will start on the next months billing cycle. Reading your message this is exactly what TCL told you "once the new plan kicked in, a completely new allocation would start, to be renewed when my monthly cycle ended"

Your new montly plan will kick in in 3 days on the date of your billing cycle. I suspect you might be in for a rather large bill if you have proceeded to use all of your cap again in that 3 days! :-)

I'm not sure. I've changed as well. Also had to go to a new usage meter, the TCL one rather than paradise. My usage says it's back to 0, even though before I changed I was on 4 gb used

I checked very carefully with them. They said since I had moved to a completely new plan, the new allocation would begin there and then and would end at the end of the billing cycle (3 days from when I changed my plan). Once the new cycle starts, my allocation would start again. I do see on the Paradise usage page it notes extra usage is charged at 20c/MB whereas since I am now on the new plan (and speed) it should reflect $4.95/500MB. If I get a large bill you can be sure I will be complaining loud and clear and not paying it!

Check you usage again. I found i had moved to a new usage tool. One on the Telstra site, NOT the old paradise one that I had been using (and had a nice program that would scrap the data out of).

I now have to write a new program to rip the data out of the new site.

But yes, my usage has restarted at 0 for the month as well......WHOOHOO!!

This is getting quite unclear. As soon as I got home after changing plans I noticed that download speeds have increased significantly.

However I have just now been on the phone with TCL customer and tech support and they tell me that since I did not change my IP address, I was still on the old plan! That means my limit was not reset to 0 :-( I am going to have to send a note to support@paradise to complain about the misinformation they provided.

Changing to the new IP address is something I cannot do myself. I changed the WAN IP address in my router but they had to provision a new IP address for me for the modem. This only happened now.

Out of interest where is the traffic tool on the TCL website?
