richms: yes, but I expect that there will be solutions for that come about if it prooves to be any good.

If I could put a couple of them around the house and have GSM handsets as asterisk extensions - that would be great.

The problem is you'll never be legally allowed to use one in NZ (or most other countries) because there is no licence free GSM or UMTS spectrum available.

Most of the spectrum I use probably isnt legal in one way or another. Cross that bridge if it comes to it.

What effect would a single gsm850 channel have on a cdma network? Since its just noise to the cdma would it bother it a great deal?

We've got a farm down, right out the back of Hastings. Coverage on Vodafone and Telecom is mostly non-existent there.

Does that make us eligible for such a device?

We have about >25 Mobile Phones under a corporate contract (As far as I know).
We just moved to Vodafone from Telecom (XT) and ended up moving back to Telecom because Vodafone said "the location is in a hole is our network", which is pretty much the same thing with Telecom. The only reason why we went back to Telecom is because we know where we have to go if we need to make a call (usually have to get on a motor bike and climb some slopes etc).

When we asked either of the providers, is there anything that we can do? They haven't provided an answer. And it has been like this for over 10 years.
