Hi Steve, yes well aware of the implications of operational separation, hmmmm, Germany, so if thats the case they should be basing average annual house costs (for the purpose of cost of living etc) based on the maintenance cost of a audi or merc, rather than corollas, htat should stuff up our placement on the OECD ratings :)

Well "cabinet" unbundling may be not attractive until the pricing changes but CallPlus/Slingshot are unbundling 6 exchanges in Hamilton and Telstraclear did 42 exchanges last year.

When does the sub loop unbundling determination get reviewed, if at all?

Once assumes that the comcom is all about competition, if after a period there has been no one brave enough or stupid enough to wast their money and efforts loading up cabinets then I guess its their job to adjust things to make it happen, but good point, how long do we wait.

Dumb question: what happens to people who are outside the cabinet/to-be-cabinetised zone like me? It seems strange that I'm within the 75% that gets Freeview HD but outside the 80% that gets cabnetised!

Then you arent getting anything right now. Sucks but thats the way.

There are plenty of out of the way places in freeviews 75% that are well off the beaten track so thats not really a good basis for expecting broadband.

Hmm that sucks. I'm really not that far out of the way. Three neighbouring exchanges have areas within a 10Mbps zone, and 2 also have cabinets. We're also right on the edge of our exchange that is closest to the 10Mbps zone. Sigh...

What sort of sync speed do you get currently? Check in your adsl modem's admin/status page.

The aim of the cabinetisation programme is to get 80% of ADSL connections able to sync at 10Mbit+ by reducing the distance the phone lines need to travel before they terminate on ADSL equipment.

If you're not within ~2km of the exchange or of a cabinet you're probably one of the unlucky ~20% or so

No matter where they draw the line there will be someone that is right on the edge of it.

Perhaps the socalist govt will pay for you to get internet some other way?

Sync speed is 7616kbps down and 160kbps up on a Maxnet unlimited/128 plan. Exchange is probably within 3km. No point complaining here I guess. Speed isn't really that bad... I'd rather have more cap at this point!

Hi, what modem do you have, as it is you appear to report 2km of cable so you are within what would be considered a 10Mb/s area, but not a lot more, so maybe your modem or house wiring is holding things back. Also what modulation mode does your modem report.

How many filtered phone do you have across the line and as per the telecomwholesale site does telecom state if you are on a ADSL2+ exchange or not.

Modem is a Dynalink RTA1025w. I think the following are the other stats you asked for...

Line Mode: G.DMT
Latency Type: Interleave
Line Coding: Trellis On

There are 3 phones in the house, one of which is a fax machine. Approximately 2km seems about right to me. We are not on an ADSL2+ exchange.
