It looks like that IS NOT a GPRS command, but only the payload of a transmission to a server.

You probably need the APN configuration entered somewhere, and it's not in that command. It would help a lot more if you told us maker and model.

tonyd10111: I take it you understand the fundamentals of realtime gps tracking... In order to get a realtime location using packet data, you need the GPRS to be locked and working. At the moment all um getting is texted long and lat from the unit. Now you should be able to use the packed data stream if the GPRS is going. Hence saving you money. Now the unit will work anywhere in the world on GPRS, using voda nz data cards, except in nz. On making enquiries to the manufacturer I was told that the string, which us constant everywhere in the world, works everywhere else in th world, it should work in nz.

I can see there is further discussion on this but I just waneted to clarify a couple of small things. APN's are unique to every network around the world. There is certainly no way this device will work on every network around the world using GPRS without using specific APN settings for the individual network. Without the APN setting there is no way to establish a GPRS data connection.

Here in NZ Vodafone will actually establish a packet switch session using any APN name, this is a rather unique setting/feature for a network and would mean that even if a device was configured for another network it should work in NZ.

Ok, got the document. As suspected that message is only the payload. The document is not about the GPRS configuration so we will need to find out maker and model to get to the point where we can configure GPRS settings, including APN, etc.

Is this one of the chinese special jobbies like are sold on trademe? I never had the one with GPRS, but a friends dad in wellington got one (paid way too much via a dodgey guy on trademe) and never got the data part working despite Mr ESL telling him all sorts of stuff.

Texting works fine.

Bestmate is a great idea.

The other fun part is you'll then need a TCP/UDP server set up to listen on the net for the realtime data.. I'm betting this won't have been supplied so will have to be developed.

Then you'll need to decode the payload too..

Hows your programming? Have a server to host the listener?

If its just for home use you're likely going to be dissapointed by how difficult this is going to be.

You won't receive the live tracking until the packet data connection is sorted. The document you sent me is only for the protocol used for communication between the device and the server. It does not contain anything about the GPRS connection configuration itself.
