Nz_Dude: Is it just me or is this getting way off topic. I work for one of the companies so what ever I say people would think I was being biast. There are places where you wont get CDMA and will get GSM and places will you will get GSM and no CDMA. BOTH networks will have dodgy coverage patches. Although I must say telecom certainly have superior EVDO coverage comparied to WCDMA.

I agree, it has gone off topic, but such is the nature of forums, in terms of going off topic at times. :-)

As for EVDO versus WCDMA coverage, the gap will definately close, as I'm sure you know.

*On Topic*

The 'bolt on' services that us On Account users apparently 'enjoy' only apply if we get locked into a 24 month contract. You choose indeed?

I agree, it is a step backwards & certainly not something that I would want to do. I'm on a Get 300 Plan & although the current promotion with free text weekends is fantastic, I would like to beable to "bolt on" a text plan (rather than my current 20 txt & 10 pxt), without being tied into a 24 month contract.

Oh um well since everyone else is off topic why not continue it.... I agree the 24month contract term is stupid. Voda must be afraid of loosing customers to tcom. Instead of locking them into contract why not look at why telecom is getting almost 3x their connections and match what they are offering its common sense. It seams like voda are in panic mode and thier marketing departments respose is lock everyone into a contract with us. But im looking forward to the quartly results being compared for xmas as that accounts for the busiest part of the year for both companies.

Telecom are also promoting 24 month contracts extensively at the moment as well and giving you your choice of phone for free if you sign up.

I've seen 3 different plans this week that they currently have in the marketplace, all offering $35 + GST for 100 mins incl offpeak and 35c + GST for calls with your choice of about 6 phones for free.

There is one huge difference.

Voda say we will give you an awesome deal but you have to be with us for 24 months

Tcom offer you a good deal and offer you a free phone if YOU CHOOSE to go for 24 months.

Big difference.

From my brief look at 'You choose', it would not save me much if any compared to the current plan I am on. The 24 month contract is unacceptable for me.

I was hoping we'd get back on topic in regard to the Let yourself go promotion and how on account users are excluded from the extenstion. Personally I feel it is off a bit and have written 'feedback' to VF expressing my views on the topic. Apparently the letter has been forwarded to marketting but I don't really have that much faith in VF anymore.

Vodafone's talk for 2 hours and pay for 3 minute promotion was great becuase it was avaible for everyone on Vodafone to enjoy.

I really don't like the fact that i pay $40 a month on my contract plan for 200 Vodafone minutes when someone on prepaid can pay only $3 for 240 minutes to landlines or vodafone, it just doesn't make sense.

Vodafone always talks about all the value that is added to being on contract, but in this situation i fail to see the value.

Actually the Get 200 Plan is $30 per month inclusive of GST not $40. Also, don't worry I'm sure Vodafone will be releasing some new promotion soon, that will benefit all customers.

Ok, sorry you never stipulated which plan you were on, so I made a guess & got it wrong. As for new promotions, Vodafone regularly release these (note promos not plans). I'm certain Vodafone will have acquired over 2 million customers by the time they release their next quarterly results, which I'm sure will result in a promo of some sort. Not to mention if Telecom release a new promo, Vodafone will probably match or better it.

As for Pre Pay customers being the only ones to get the extended Pay for 3 mins get 2 hours for free off peak calling during the week, it's unfortunate but it's not the end of world, I could think of a hell of lot of things that are far worse. Telecom Pre Pay customers were/are the only ones offered a "similar type" promotion, their on account customers weren't offered anything similar as far as I'm aware.

Correct, Telecom 3 minute hour was only for prepay, BUT... Telecoms promotion was also avaible on the weekends all day and all night, whereas Vodafones is only weeknights!! Telecoms one is more attractive, even if it is only for 1 hour!

When Telecom only offered that promo to pre paid customers, i thought 'if i was on telecom contract, i'd be pissed off' Now Vodafone sudden cut off us contracters which makes me even more pissed off than i would have been if i was on Telecom.

And account customers who are on Go Onebill, I think it's only been extended past dec30 on t'com Prepaid though. Be thankful it was extended at all,. Buy a $35 PrePay pack,, i'm sure you'll use the value. I'm making rather good use of it on both networks.. Service calls cost me $1.47 instead of $15- $20 meaning it's making me plenty of Dough.

Charged up those Prepaid dinosaurs from my junkbox... that old Nok1100 and HyundaiTX21b :-P

[nitpicking] "prepay" is a Vodafone trademark in NZ, on Telecom its "prepaid" [/nitpicking]

Grantis you obviously do not understand a great deal about RF propagation if you think the gap between EVDO and UMTS coverage will close. 2.1GHz vs 800MHz - I don't think so.

All TCom T3G services can be used within 027 coverage. Whereas all Voda 3G services can only be used within 3G coverage - a big difference in quality of service.

I think Voda will be trying to squeeze every buck they can out of their users. After all if you invest $200M plus in a new network you need an ROI. Otherwise why do it? 24 month contracts do give some surety in terms of revenue.

At the moment that is correct. However when (assuming) Telecom launch video calling later this year it's only going to work in EVDO coverage areas.
