Looks like a firewall configuration issue, possibly with SYN ACKs for outgoing SSH sessions being filtered on one of the GGSNs that should be fixed soon from what I hear.
Try using the the Direct or Internet APNs meanwhile, or disconnect/reconnect to see if you hit another GGSN.
This bit me on Friday when I was trying to SSH for work via iPhone tether :(. Used to work and very important to me when I'm on call while out and about!
So yeah, at least one IP block on the iPhone APN is blocking all SSH out, even to non-device destinations.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but we can't change from the iPhone APN to the direct or internet APNs as then tethering will be disabled?
Actually what I'm saying is that on that iPhone APN SSH out is still blocked. Someone had suggested changing to a different APN - but then tethering won't work I believe. So I think Vodafone need to fix the filtering so we can tether via iPhone AND use SSH going out of their network.
