I've just changed to vodafone adsl from Telecom, mainly due to better data allowance and the mySky deal.

Performance so far has been woeful.  With Telecom, I was getting solid 12Mbps down, 600kbps up (I am on a cabentised exchange).  On vodafone, I get anywhere between 200kbps and 12Mbps, usually very slow in the evenings.  Also, even very simple pages like the google homepage can take a long time (ie 30-60sec) to load.  Youtube is pretty much unwatchable.  Skype has frequent dropouts.

I'm about to start the process of terminating this (5 day old) contract due to the vodafone side of the contract not being fulfilled.  Fortunately the promised wireless router has not been delivered so that is another fail on their part.  I expect a lot of squirming from them though.

To add insult to injury, their trouble-ticket page won't accept a new ticket at present so I'm going to have to phone and be treated like an idiot by some helldesk monkey.  Yes, I have tried resetting my router and no, I don't have any new firewall software installed!

Has anyone else managed to terminate a contract this early due to unacceptable performance?

Anyone recommend a good ISP with decent data caps?

Hi, is you low speed ADSL related or Vodafone capacity (to your area/exchange), are you on a Red network connection or still on the cabinet with a Telecom wholesale.

I'm not in the red network area so they must be using the Telecom cabinet.  Presumably, their backhaul from the cabinet/exchange is inadequate which is why the speed is so poor at busy times

Right, thats what I had expected, but during those low speed times your modem is still syncing at its normal 14Mb/s or whatever. Reason I asked is if you were on the red network then midspan injection issues could effect DSL sync speeds during peak (read higher noise level) periods, but that appear to not apply.

So I agree, sounds like Voda need to up the level of capacity to your area.

Just an update.
I got a separate ADSL filter for the telephone (even though the IT man tested the internet speed with the phone unplugged completely) and I unplugged the filter on the modem / router and plugged it back in again, and it seemed a bit faster.
My brother in law suggested to right click on the 'computer' icon at the bottom right on the tool bar and click 'repair'. I did this and my download speed is now around 2.64 mbps (was 0.064?)
Does anyone know what the download speed is supposed to be? - can't find this information on the vodafone web forum anywhere...

many thanks

This would depend on many factors please check your Modem line stats this will give you a fair idea

Speed gets slower the further you are from cabinet / exchange also the plan you are on. if this is 128k up link limit the down link speed will be impacted make sure you are on a FS/FS plan
