Paul, the plans doesn't work for month-by-month type of usage. Theres no way a user would know they are likely to use 3GB, and buying 250MB bundles at $20 a pop is not very cost effective if you are a light and infrequent user.
It would be good if there are 50MB, 100MB, 500MB bundles for users to choose month-by-month.
PaulBrislen: Ah, so you want less data per month but more than the 250? Is that right?
You can always stick with the existing OA plans - up to 8GB - or use the PP options... don't have to put in the iPad plans.
But I will feed that back to the marketing team... early days yet.

I'd rather fork out and buy a big stash of data when i'm feeling rich and have it last when i'm feeling poor. 3GB for $50 is awesome, but on a mobile device like an ipad or iphone you really need to be unemployed to have enough time to use it, and last i checked WINZ wasn't handing out grants to buy either.
The AU plan buying 12GB for $150 (~$200NZD?) and having a year to use it is EXACTLY what i'd buy if it was available in NZ.

I have my ipad on xt which is sensational, but its a real hassle to top up and speak to the absolutly useless call centre people. I get told different information every time i call.
I really like the idea of not being locked into a contract and just buying when required. I'd like to see different data packages though - in particular the data expiry needs to be extended.
In Australia Vodafone have several options for iPad data, but the two we really need here in NZ are:
6GB data, 180 days expiry - AUD$100 12GB data, 365 days expiry - AUD$150

Telecom really aren't geared up for people who choose other Mobile Phone providers, but still want to use an XT Data Stick. I am also in this category, and encountered the same problem as you.
Here is the way around it:
- Logon to the internet using your Data Stick (hopefully you have at least 50c credit left, or it is going to be much more difficult)
- Go to this web page: http://yt.telecom.co.nz/mobile/
- Click on the Top Up link (sorry, I'm not connected via my Data Stick at present, so that wording may not be exact)
- Choose the option to enter a Voucher Number rather than a credit card, and your topup will be done in a few moments
250mb plan is just ridiculous for this type of device. Might as well not offer it. The email, web, the apps and a few videos - what the iPad is used for - would finish the data within a week.

speaking purely from a network type POV, the iPad is a triband 3G device working on 850, 1900 and 2100.
Telecom has 850 nationwide - so wherever Xt has coverage you will get 3G.
Vodafone 2100 3G coverage is only in urban centres. outside that they use 900 3G, which the iPad does not work on. So using it outside those centres means the iPad will drop down to 2G speeds. 2Degrees 3G network coverage is unknown at the moment AFAIK
in terms of speeds of Voda 3G vs XT 3G lots of people have reported different results. It pretty much depends onwhere you are at the time and how many other people are using that particular cellsite. some places get better voda speeds, some places get better XT speeds.
mattk: personally i'd rather the prepay data chunks! if I could buy a 3GB data chunk as required it would make me happy.
Guessing this isn't as good a deal for the telcos maybe? I've been using TC's prepay because I like the 'don't use it don't pay' deal, $60 lasts me 3-4mths AND it's not 2g in national park....
but If VF can better it i'd take it... 3GB for $50 is an awesome deal but not when you only have 1 month to burn it.
Hi Mark, can you confirm you get 3g in National Park (this is my primary reason/place for mobile data). The iPhone never gets 3g in National Park. On the field itself, Whakapapa, not a prob - 3g always - but not in National Park. Your not staying at DHSC by chance? OMG I think penny just dropped - wotsup!
So question is - do you get 3g in NP and on the slope with Telecom.

....unless you primarily have it hooked up to your wifi at home and work and only use the 3G part occaisionally when out and about.

whats the go with mobile TV thru TC on ipad? no data charges for that...! I'm only using ~150MB/mth on my cell ph currently - but from what overseas have said the ipad destroys mobile data limits... i'm thinking 1GB/mth tops.
