I'm having a similar issue.  Using a SSL VPN over port 443 to auckland over TCL it times out repeatidly, when using my XT Datacard it's rock solid.

Tempted to take a wireshark trace and prove how broken it is.

HFC died again tonight... seems to have taken out my IPv6 tunnel at the same time.

Seems to drop the iptables rule when the eth0 goes down.  Bloody annoying is all I can say.

I'd switch isps but it will cost me $200 to find Telecom network.
