paradoxsm: When is saturn going to expand it's footprint? especially with upgradong to digital.

when every home has fibre to the front door, it'll be a wonderful day.

There are no plans to extend their current HFC and copper networks beyond the current footprint, this was a decision made several years ago.

You're not in Wgtn are you?

As a matter of interest I know somebody from Texas who is here working for a while. He brought along with him the box that Verizon gave him and plugged into a DSL box connected via Xtra. At the 10MBs plan he was able to watch "live" TV directly from the US, tune into channels etc. and make calls as if he were back in the US. Only when I told him that we got charged for traffic did he realise that this might not be the best way to catch up with events back home!  Also he noted that during peak times the 10MBs wasn't really and it impacted the IPTV service.

I noted also that he might do better with a 10MBs plan with TCL since they seem to maintain speed better under load

I currently am only set up for TelstraClear cable internet. I have not had Saturn TV in the past. Is is possible for me to somehow hook up some coaxial cable and benefit from this crystal clear reception? I can't get TV1 or TV2 in my location at present.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Strictly speaking I suspect you could just split the coax and feed one into your TV and pick up the FTA channels as well as Saturn Weather.  The better question is, it is legal to do that since you are not apparently paying for cable TV.  What Saturn should do I (but I suspect don't) is put a filter on the cable so that you cannot receive any TV signals, FTA or not. They would remove the filter when you subscribed to pay TV. But perhaps given that the FTA are just that, maybe they don't bother.

Ok, so I have Highspeed 10G hooked up to my PC, and I watch TV thru my PCI TV Tuner Card. I know nothing of the mysteries of 'Television' so can someone PLEASE explain what I need to buy, and where I plug the thingies in?

and also, will this affect my monthly usage? Because I go very close to the 10Gb limit, and sometimes over.

My TV card doesn't have the same plug as the back of the modem either, can I use the input for the antenna?

And does spiltting the cable weaken the signal?

I have the same setup as you at home. You will need a Two- Way 'F' Connector (L4221), a Flylead F Type Male to Belling Lee male (L3004) and a Flylead F Type Male to F Type Male (L3001). These are all available from Dick Smiths (catalogue numbers are in brackets).

Unplug the coaxial cable that runs to the modem from the wall. Plug in one end of your F-F lead. Hook this up to the two way connector. Run one cable off here to your tv card and hook the cable modem up to the other. Easy.

I have TCL cable running off the splitter and I have had no problems achieving the full speed of my plan. If you set it up like this it will have no effect on your usage whatsoever.

No problem..I just remember it took me a wee while to figure it all out and those cables are a rip off at DSE so you don't want to get it wrong!

all the other channels are fine, but tv 3 is all wobbly. watchable for the most part, but sometimes goes REALLY bad. Is this a Satrun problem or my computer?

While it's mostly fine for me, I do notice that TV3 has poorer PQ than TV1 or TV2 and the best PQ I get is DW TV on Channel 91!
