It seems that Vodafone have the technology available but onlyl apply this in certain countries.
Vodfone UK have a simple device called Sure Signal, a box no larger than a modem and requires boradband internet. Up to 32 numbers can be registered with Vodafone to send calls down the broadband line which are then transmitted within your house/ office etc. in full 3G strength! Up to 4 calls can be handled simultaneously! Vodafone UK sells these units for around 60 Pounds and solves ALL their problems, even in the remotest areas.
A no brainer really but Vodafone comments that at this stage they have no intentions of releasing Sure Signal and are not sure if they ever will!
So much for simple customer service.
Perhaps many requests to Vodafone NZ for the Sure Signal box will prompt them to re-act.
I had a serious question. Is the coverage map for 2G on Vodafone's website up to date? It shows zero coverage in Reefton on the Coast, but I know there's coverage here. There's also none (apparently) on SH1 between Blenheim and Picton, but again, I know you can get a good signal here.
Interestingly enough, in both of these places, 900MHz 3G coverage is full, but 2G isn't? Odd...how up-to-date is the map for 2G?
It has everything to do with coverage maps, as the Sure Signal would take care of those area where is limited or no coverage - at least within your own office or home envirnoment (as it works off Broadband) - but I agreewith your subsequent posting that probably the coverage maps are at best theoretical or out of date. For the industrial area of Omahu in Hastings, the reception is worse than would be indicated by the coverage maps (although these are not flash either).
I am starting to realise 3g coverage is hopeless in the suburbs - both Auckland and Wellington. Mate's on XT have better coverage whenever I struggle staying on 3g
