nate:
maverick: Yep huge loss to The forum, not often you get a technical specialist actively assiting but some people where more worried about perceived "bluntness"... so it seems some people prefer the Marketing talk rather than the plain speak technical info....

I'm seeing it more and more on these forums... users with low post counts expecting over the top service from an advanced tech at a telco or similar, and then slagging off when they don't get the response they want, or it's not worded how they like.

We all lose as they n00b doesn't get the point and the go-to-guy leaves or doesn't bother responding to any further questions.  If it was up to me, I'd be banning en masse.

(this isn't directed to those who do appreciate and are thankful for the gems that exist in some of the bigger companies, that help us all out, off their own backs)

/end rant.

Unfortunately it is the nature of the beast. We still manage to keep some at large. Ever wondered what would happened if this wasn't a moderated forum?

Now back on topic.

quickymart: No, he hasn't left Vodafone, altho I can tell you he was put off this forum by some rather nasty comments made towards him (mostly by SteveON), which I thought was a great loss - I always found John really good and very helpful.

You sure about that, I thought he said thanks to SteveON??

Very very sure, you obviously missed his final post?

sbiddle: My understanding is all numbers beginning with 0 are 8 digits, ie 0210xxxxxxx however the NAD site is down at present so I can't check. I've had that in my Linksys provisiong stuff since earlier in the year and also have it deployed on all my sites and nobody has raised any issues.

I think confusion can occur at times when official sites (such as the NAD) count digits and exclude the 0 since this is only an access code. Technically these are 10 digit numbers (2+8).

Hi Steve,

Have you got a link to the NAD.  Google search turns up nothing..

Regards,

Old3eyes

After checking several times using the highly sophisticated finger method to check how many digits in my number, I can confirm Vodafone do have 11 digit cellphone numbers.

I remember asking Vodafone about this a few years back, I've long since lost the EMail but the route patterns I used at the time were as follows.  This elimiated complaints about users not being able to dial certain 021 numbers so I'm fairly confident it's correct.  :)

02102XXXXXX
02103XXXXX
02104XXXXX
02105XXXXX
02106XXXXX
02107XXXXX

cheers,
ben.

FWIW I left the VFNZ forums because of JohnR's trigger happy thread locking skills, but I wish him well.

Forum communities are kinda like big disfunctional families in a way, but at least you can move on and find another one ;-)

He was never a Moderator (I don't think) - so he wouldn't lock topics.

Sorry, I know this is still off topic but a big reason I ended up on GZ was that John R was one guy who could answer the Vodafone technical stuff.

Sorry to hear you are gone John.

Cheers, Matt.

Well lets put it this way, there were occasions where he'd have the last say in a thread that would then miraculously become locked immediately afterwards...

We should move on tho, doubly so since he's not here to respond himself.

But not on here, so why must you change this topic for everyone else by complaining?

Back on topic? or has it been answered?

Read the original post by JimmyC where he states he left the VFNZ forums (where JohnR is an admin) JimmyC wasnt referring to GeekZone Forums.

I agree it's a loss.
