yano1980: This is interesting, I work for a large ITSP in the UK and have been working through a fault with a customer who connects to our SBC via SIP trunk and has the exact same issue.
They are using the following software.
User-Agent: Asterisk PBX 1.6.2.15
I have been running debug on our SBC and Cisco media gateways to try and determine the cause of the problem (possible malformed media packets etc) but have not been able to pin point the issue. I believe the issue is software related on the Asterisk.
The only way we can workaround the problem is by setting the Asterisk to use SIP INFO, this works on every occasion. Btw if you receive '488 media not acceptable' from your provider it is just indicating that there gateway or SIP stack is not set to use SIP INFO.
Did you ever find a fix for this problem, and/or a reason for the DTMF detection using RFC2833 failing?
Thanks,
