I have actually sent an email to Vodafone - asking if I can cancel mine and my wifes new contracts - I hope they do it without too much fuss and hope they waive any penalty fees as a gesture of goodwill - as we have only been on the plans for a week (2 days in the wifes case).

It's a real shame though because the plans are much better than what XT offers, the free 3 gigs of data was gonna be awesome and it was really easy and quick setting it all up etc :( Just a shame the coverage wasnt up to scratch where I live.

I am gonna be on call for my company every other week in the not too distant future so ultimately I must have decent coverage and cannot have outages or dropped calls (I work for a bank). I have already had about 6 network lost messages and 2 dropped calls (in the middle of talking to my bank) today in Raumati... :(

just a wee update - i went in to Telecom today and the plan they were offering that was basically the same as what i'd get on vodafone for $40.80 - worked out about $80/month!

absolute craziness.

im considering getting some yogurt cartons and string instead.

so seems the choice is to put up with dropped calls and interrupted phone calls but decent coverage in the CBD - or pay double to Telecom just to get full coverage.

Judging from the OP's mention of the plan pricing of $40.80, I'd guess it is Smart1 plan - 30mins, 300txts and 250mb data.

yeah the smart one plan is what i signed up to - seems like a great deal especially with the pile of free SMS messages and 3 gigs of free data they threw in with it when i ordered online.

unfortunately the poor signal in Raumati was a deal breaker so i cancelled the contract - Vodafone were very good about it - and since it was within the first 14 days they cancelled the plan without any break fees etc. so stoked.

gonna go back to Xt for now and see how it goes, Xt seems a bit more expensive but ultimately i just need the better coverage :(

Im hoping it's only down the beach where the bad coverage is, cos when i get my new phone i have to change to either Vodafone or 2degrees. I live over the tracks in pram next to big save haha. I think i might go on 2degrees.

I just bought a GT540 today and have had no issues (on TCNZ thru vodafone). It's been on 3g all day and boy, have I been playing!

OP; if you have a landline with Telecom sign up to 'one the one bill'.

Access / Rental Voice: $0
30mins @ $0.59incl GST =  $17.70
240MB Data; $18
2500 SMS $12
Total:  $47.70

Don't need 2500 SMS? 150 ($6). Data 120MB = $12, everything else is on the website :)

I had to keep re-reading that, trying to understand what you meant by TCNZ. I'm assuming TelstraClear, or TCL ;)

Lol. Another Vodafone disaster. I need to place a MiFi in a place that is 3 meters above the ground to receive 2 bars of signal. And use my iPhone 4 to connect to the MiFi and browse the Internet. Bloody he'll. It cost 480 to cancel the contract. I can't move back to XT anymore!! On XT, it has always been 4 or full bars. I regret too, but can't go back anymore. I will break the contract soon, but I need the money first. Lol

The Primary cell site for all operators in Parapaumu is on the water tower directly above the lights on the intersection of SH1 and Kapiti Rd so coverage of all networks is excellent at that location.

I've had a few issues with vodafone and my iphone 4.

I think, it might be the iphone as I never had the same probs with my other phone.

The annoying one, is where you have a couple of bars signal strength, then , get an sms that you just missed a call. This happens a lot more frequently than with my prior phone. Secondly, sometimes when calling out, it takes nearly a minute for the calling tone to begin. Like, the phone had trouble with the network strength but the signal bars were fine.

I'm thinking about swapping to telecom now - telecom is a bit more expensive but they have a better network.

You have advised and been advised by Vodafone NZ and myself that you live in a very low Vodafone coverage area in Rangiora many times over the last few years so why would you go sign a contract?

Vodafone has never disputed that you have very low coverage at home,

If you wanted to check out the locations of the Cell Sites locations check out my blog entry on my sig.

It has all the Cell Sites as per the RSM database plugged into Google Maps.. Plus the frequencies that the carriers can transmit on.

Always good to check them out (and be wary of the Vodafone 2100, as they are rubbish indoors).
