Not everyone does that though...I'd be happy with 200 off-net texts per month. As it is on my plan, I have 2000 VF-VF texts, and I'd be lucky if I used 25 on-net - but I send a lot off-net. Sadly I can't seem to combine SMS/voice plans cheaply or easily, so I'm stuck for now.

The lack of any off-net SMS addons on Vodafone IMHO is the single biggest factor driving customers from there network to 2degrees.

Big +1 to this, fully agree

telecom customer buys 5000 txts for $12 frm telecom and sends them all to a 2D number. Telecom have to pay 2D 5000 x 9c = approx $450. net loss to telecom is $12-$450= $438

why would voda launch an offnet plan and open themselves up to this abuse of MTR?

Maybe when bill and keep comes in they might,because the textmerace will be stopped then

I've heard some figures (which I won't post here because they're not public) and I'm pretty amazed at the number of free phones they gave away.

Sacrifice a little to make a any netw. text package, and they will come. Pretty much every connected cellphone in NZ will work on your network, thats the downside telecom has.

I know about 4 people that have to carry a second phone on vodafone prepay just for their cheap-ass friends to text to because they will not text off net from vodafone.

Its why so many people want dual sim junk - not best mate or whatever, just crappy old SMS.

VFs refusal to sell any off net text to prepay or decent ones to those on a plan is the sole reason they are still carrying so many connections, since their pricing for everything else is so bad on prepay.

As soon as everyone has smart phones with push notifications for email, SMS will no longer be needed. Encourage all your friends to email you instead.

A few older people I know barely have their heads around SMS, asking them to learn an entirely new system just to send a text? I doubt they would want to know.

Lol you cant exactly call them cheap-ass. At 20c a text, I think anyone would think twice before sending a casual text to someone.

My girlfriend who lives in Auckland tells me most of her friends are on VF Prepay and no one wants to move to another network because they then their friends stop texting them. Vodafone know this and it's in their interests to keep it this way at the moment, as the critical mass stays on net.

(Hopefully) A tipping point will come, where enough people trickle away to other networks that those who are still on Vodafone for the above reason decide to switch to take advantage of the any network text bundles both Telecom XT and 2degrees prepaid offer.

Hopefully that day comes sooner rather than later. I'm also very disappointed with Vodafone's On-Account text bundles. I carry two phones as me and my GF do text alot as we are most often in different cities, and my Corporate On-Account plan only gives me 500 any network texts a month. Vodafone have no options for larger bundles for any network. Even their On-Net is only 1000 for $10 post paid, where as I think Prepay gets 2000 for the same money

Most likely this woudl be the reason you were declined.

I have a perfect credit history, NEVER had a single late payment or anything of the type. Right now I have 3 small debts, an very small overdraft with the bank (Had an overdraft since 1998), small amount of income tax due in April 2011 (note I said due, NOT overdue), and 1 year interest free deferred payment for LCD TV and some other stuff from 2 months ago, and all 3 of the above will be paid off no later than end of this tax year.

A bank overdraft for 13 years, i think that might knock you back a fair bit. They will be wondering why you can't pay it back and keep it that way. Just my thoughts.

Well actually that was not part of the application, so they have no idea what debts I have to whom, for how much, and for how long. What I meant was I have had an overdraft facility for that period. Currently it is in the red a few hundred as I just spent $1,000 on boxing day. If they were knocking me back for having an overdraft facility, then basically nobody could sign up to 2D as most people have overdraft facility, credit cards or store cards of some sort.

They dont get to see that information when credit checking, just defaults and other enquiries.

I know they are wanting to change it more inline with the US model where every little thing is reported, but AFAIK thankfully that has not happened yet, or we might end up with credit card rates changing depending on what insurance you have and other crazy things.

If 2 degrees dont want someone on contract with no history of defaults, then business must be too good for them being able to turn people away like that.

all the credit rating decisions are done by Veda, so i doubt 2degrees are rejecting you per se. They get information saying that you don't pass the required threshold from Veda. If you are worried about why you should talk to them, i think they are required to provide credit information to you about yourself for free or some minimal fee to cover costs.

+1 and then some. When I was looking at getting the Galaxy S phone, the generic model is 900/2100. I've been a Telecom customer for years, but keen on the handset so knew I'd have to go 2Degrees or Voda.

I"m a Telecom post paid customer but decided to just go prepaid with Voda.. I was absolutely disgusted to find the prepay plans dont have an all network texting plan. Is this dark ages or something? I dont need 2000 or 4000 texts to other Voda customers. I just want to send a text, doesnt matter to what network. They dont even have prepay mobile broadband add ons past is it 50 megs? Cmon Voda.

I wouldve switched to 2Degrees ages ago but we dont have 2Degrees 3G towers in Hamilton, and Voda's prepaid plans are rubbish IMO. Hence i decided to leave the generic Galaxy S and find an XT compatible version. Much as I wanted the handset, it wasnt enough to sway me into joining Vodafone.
