mattwnz: Isn't this sure signal thing, sinilar to  turning your cellphone into a cordless house phone.

No, it's not. It's like a mini cell site on your desk, with a 20m range (the small one) or 300m range (the enterprise model).

mattwnz: From what I can see from the promo page it creates a 3G  base station for your mobile to use, and that transmits the data over your broadband connection/eg over your phone line. Certainly a clever idea and gets around not having to install more cell phone towers. But I don't see the advatnage over using a normal landline or voip calling, apart from if you are on a naked broadband connection, or you don't want multiple phones.

It's not a replacement for your fixed line, like VoIP could be. It's just a way to make sure your mobile phones get proper signal in your home or office, if you currently can't get a good one.

Sorry my post above was meant to contain useful content as well, which is that the Enterprise version has 40 metre range, not 300m.

That's correct, I was mistaken.

Uploading the video footage with Russell Stanners and Tony Baird announcing and introducing the product features. Will put it here later with pictures.

I hope Vodafone is considering the current limit's as part of a "trial" the bulk of users that will benefit from this most aren't able to get it

While the video is uploading...

A couple of weeks ago I was invited by Vodafone to an event in Auckland. When I got the confirmation the address was the helicopter company HeliLink. I had a hunch and told my wife Vodafone would be taking us to the middle of nowhere, and then turning on the Sure Signal to show off...

And sure enough, I got there in the morning, joined by another fifteen journalists and we were taken away to an event in Birkenhead (www.bethellsbeach.com). The boutique accommodation has been using the Sure Signal as one of the testers for few months now.

Here are some images from the event, and here is the official release:

The broadband connection you need, If Vodafone want this to take off and really help those with poor coverage then they will need to open it up, DSL out in the boondocks is out so you need to look at allow them on wireless links and the like.

Also the number of devices, the limit of 4 is very low, I personally live in a 6 phone house with 4 people

Nice pictures tho, I'm sure the event was great but it's a little OTT for my liking :) Save the choppers for bigger

The choppers were to make a point...

As for the limits, they are aware of the possibilities - including other wireless links, etc.

So the limit's are for active phones? What are the specific's around it? Is this counted by active calls/data or just phone's "registered" to it. For the few user's who may need this in hellish apartment blocks can you restrict who attaches to the device?

You'd think it might allow some kind of filtering....

It's interesting to see that this seems have been mentioned by numerous people in the last few weeks as something they want to see. When the Sure Signal launched in the UK it was IMEI locked to a small number of devices and was the single biggest negative issue that people had with the device.

I guess there is no pleasing people! Smile
