Sorry that I didn't reply sooner, but it seems to have fixed itself again. Still, it's good to have a list of more things to try if the problem comes back :)
Just an update to this: I was cabinetised three weeks ago and the connection has been flawless since then. As mentioned earlier it's always been intermittent, but it's looking good so far! :)
