spazz: I do understand the promo, I just think it's a horribly convoluted way of conveying it.

How about this:

---

100 Off-Peak minutes for $14.95 on Vodafone
100 Off-Peak minutes for $20 on Telecom

Save bread money with Vodafone!

I just deleted my reply to this , so here I go again.

Yes the 100 Off-Peak minutes on Vodafone are cheaper, but this is an add-on and you need a "You Chose" base plan to begin with to qualify for that. You can also only have one add-on (at least that’s how I understand it)

Anyway if you are making mainly off-peak (nights and weekends) then Telecom and Vodafone's My Time and Get Plans are still relevant Plus on Telecom you get $10 TXT.

So for example you can have Choose 20 and Yourtime 100, but not TXT 1000?

You can have more than one addon just not 2 from the same group

You can have " You choose 20 " + " My time 100 " + " 1000 SMS "

You choose is the biggest con IMHO -

Can only add one item from each catagory, so what if I want 4000 minuites? Have to have multiple sims, as I did with the old talk 300 to get more then 300.

Has minimum spends, if I dont use all thats included, I miss out, no ability to roll them over..

And worst of all, a 24 month term even if theres no hardware subsidy at all. There bonuses for a few months are noway near worth the value of terminating the contract obligations early, and the only thing that a term like that tells me is that there are better things coming and they want people locked in on the high prices.

Nice one vodafone, how about some real offers like they get in aussie on prepay with no terms?

I wasn't being clear - I meant that you needed to spend $110 per month to get the 3 month free promo, which is why i think the overall proposition is pitched at the high end as opposed to broad pitch of $10 TXT. Point taken on the minimum spend to get the add-on

You've never been able to roll them over each month.. NO telco does that.

You DO get hardware subsidy's, more if its a 3G handset.

OH NO... a 2 year term!!!! "Most" people keep their same number and plan for at least that, people who are chopping and changing plans/telco's are a minority. Even if you are changing to another telco, the one you're going to will usually reimburse you the value of the disconnection fees with a credit on your account.

You may have been able to milk the Talk 300 for all its worth, but things change.

vodafone also offer 2 hour calls off peak for less than $2 on prepay to 021 and landlines anywhere in NZ Monday to Friday and free SMS 021 to 021 all weekend.

That depends on which 3 months free you are going for. I.e. If you go on a You Choose 250+ then you get your plan for free the first 3 months. If you sign up to a 120- then you get 100 OP minutes free for 3 months. That’s a minimum spend of $19.95

Has anyone noticed the base txt cost in Aussie is 25c?

That's because you can call Voda to Voda for 20c per CALL, any time, over there. Why the hell would you ever wanna txt?

And you Vodafoneys are trying to trump $2 for 2 hours in the evening but only until June? Puh-leeze.

Seriously, take a look at vodafone.com.au. It's eye-opening.

Oh John, that "If you like it so much go live there" line is such an overused copout.

If we didn't have overseas markets to compare ourselves too, NZ would never further its technological development. But using your logic, I mean sure, somewhere like China might have hugely advanced Broadband technologies, and dirt-cheap mobile prices, but who are we to complain - we should all just go live in China if we want that - yeah? We're all fine and dandy with 256k still being offered by Orcon, and mobile rates being the highest in the OECD, we should just accept it and move on (or to China) right?

I don't think so.

Fact is, both Telecom and Vodafone are horribly overpriced, and Vodafone's new advertising does nothing but skew the public's perception into thinking it's new plans are amazingly cheap, when they're anything but.

Vodafone used to be cool.

Spazz mobile rates are coming down all over the world including New Zealand

Also coverage has got better the networks have got better and faster

but the prices are still coming down

Also mobile rates in China are not that cheap I have been there and also look at there average wage. Also check out how some of the people live and work.

Sorry but you are one of these folks that always use the excuse ohhhhhh but its cheaper in OZ

Vodafone used to be cool.

Actually VF's new POS states that the 15c min, 1c txt etc. Is the Maximum value if you use the full entitlement.

People don't read the fine print, it's there but seldom read. That is a fact with most advertising. How else do they get people into the stores?

VF are being very straight-up about this, if you choose to ignore that then it's your problem not VF. And in fact it IS cheap if you utilize it, also not VF's fault if you don't.

Mate, it's not an excuse. What/who am I trying to excuse here? I'm merely pointing out to those who are happy to ride with the status quo, i.e., you, that we could have it so much better, but we don't. And that's unacceptable. But hey dude, if you're happy to keep plodding along as things are, oblivious to the fact that the rest of the developed world are paying half as much as Kiwis do, then more power to ya \m/
