bae234: i heard that u cannot access xtra pop email servers with other isps, so i would not be able to get my email into outlook from this datacard. but still could acess xtramail, im guessing?
You can access the Xtra email from other networks, if you subscribe to their secure service. Also pop3 access is probably faster than any webmail...

wow thanks for all the feedback. given mauricio's comments about possible hardware issues, I think I'm going to "do nothing" for now ... or at least go and get a definite answer from Vodafone about compatibility.

(my roaming would be to "remote" places like Gisborne, New Plymouth and Christchurch - places where Woosh doesn't go (not sure about CHCH) and I wouldn't expect to get high speed coverage there - just enough to get my emails downloaded. )

thanks again, I'll leave it there ...

Ok, so if your roaming is local (New Zealand) and you have Xtra email, then you should consider the Telecom offer as well - this will give you access to Xtra's email account, and a large 3G footprint in the country.

sgarton: good point. GOOD point. Wonder if that's why the new plans are cheap at the moment ...

Anybody know if the $49 deals have been extended? THey both were supposed to finish on the 30th June.

well im back from my overseas trip. ended up figuring out how to use my xda mini as a gprs modem and that gave me minimal internet for emails which was good enough.

now just waitin for vodafone to hit me with the bill!

fyi, looks like vodafone extended the 1gb for $49/mth until 30th sept 06.

Similar, if  you sign up for a 24 month contract you get a VMC card for $149. Last promo was a free card.

Telecom has also extended their 1GB promo until September 30th.

...Where is the innovation?
