heavenlywild: The only thing that concerns me about moving from Vodafone to 2D is the data speed on 2D.

I can't speak to 2D speed, but I can tell you that it's been my intention (so so busy) for months to raise on here about my crappy vf mobile broadband speeds. I have had a number of high end phones not to mention high end data card/usb and I have never had a better connection than I could get with the entry level telecom usb device I have used. I am mostly in the central auckland area or central wellington areas when I travel.

All around $60 p/m all have 2500 Texts (not too worried about this as I'm not 12)

LOLOLOL Man this made me laugh. I have to totally agree. I would send 2-3 txt messages a month if I didn't get any to reply to! who wants to communicate by typing text into a 4" screen!

freitasm: Some companies fail to understand that terms contracts are not only locking people in, but also locking people out - those who don't like the idea of term contracts, and don't mind bringing their own handset to the game.

I totally agree. I will never sign another term contract because I want to have the reassurance of being able to vote with my feet if my telco mistreats me at any stage. That's what competition in an open market is all about.

I have been with VF since the Bell South Days, and I always have been on contract because I have found them to be generous in providing hardware subsudies (though I have had to push hard a few times). At the end of the day I don't see a contract as a reason not to sign as I can leave if they mistreat me, due to a breach of contract.

I have to say that recently I have found VF to be much more responsive and more willing to compromise and take responsibility for issues as they occur. I think they are trying harder, as are most providers. No I don't work for VF and I certainly don't think they are perfect,  but as a company, they are much more customer focused than before and I deal with Telco's a LOT.

Were I to go back onto contract now andin 6 months time decide ive had enough, thats not enough reassurance for me. After so many years of loyalty the threat of $500 fees is abhorent. And I won my handset at GZPE so dont need to buy one for a bit (cant afford to anyway).

No signature to see here, move along...

If you remember, Vodafone was the first to introduce no term contracts in the early 2000's. This was certainly seen as revolutionary at the time and won them a lot of customers and respect. Other operators followed suit and there was a great period of free association.

What killed this of course was regulation - number portability circa 2006, and since then, contracts have been commonplace for operators to keep their investments.

If I was to speculate at the market, 2degrees is wearing the hat of the innovator these days, and if they were to start to be a threat to Vodafone and Telecom's on-account numbers, then something would have to change.

I agree wit Mauricio above that fixed term contracts of more than 12 months push me away, and it's a shame that someone with a lot of history with one company can't be rewarded with something like a no-term contract when there is no handset being subsidised.

It depends on where you are of course.
I rely solely on 3G for phone and internet so have to go with what speeds are where I'm at. And being out of town I don't have all the choice options that you major city slickers have.
But I'm not complaining neither

Service from any telco is a moving feast as they go thru various marketing phases I find. It's the competitive market-place that drives how they respond with improving services or improving service... As a customer/consumer I really only have to choose who is proving those things for me

In a lot of ways its not much more than a colour choice

I'm the same, nearly ten years with Vodafone, and off contract for maybe three years? They have plans I like, but I don't want to sign for 24 months. I have the handset I want, paid cash for it. I'd love the 3gb plans but would be annoyed if I signed tomorrow and they pulled the pin a month later.

they can't pull the pin on a contract, if you sign, the terms and conditions of the contract are valid until the term ends.

They can pull the pin on the 3GB because it's not part of the contract, it's a promo.

Yeah the problem is the contract says 250mb. The 3gb is some sort of limited offer. So they could simply revert back to 250mb.

Yes the 3gb sweetener could be pulled at any time without vf breaking contract but history dictates it could live on for a while yet. If it was uneconomic the pin would have been pulled long before now

You have to give VF credit for upgrading the plans that we are locked into... They could just leave it how it was the day we signed it.

When i signed the iPhone 40 plan it had a lot less texts and minutes included. If they didn't upgrade me then I would be stuck on an old outdated plan feeling like I'm paying too much. Instead I now feel like I get really good value for money.

For this reason, I wouldn't have a problem signing another term contract with Vodafone.

If anyone from VF is reading this, keep up the good faith, and you will keep me as a customer.

Edit: Also, my contract has just expired (2 years) and I have had 3GB the whole time! Now looking to sign again but waiting to see what happens with the next model iPhone.
