Behodar:
timmmay: TC make it difficult to have internet and tv without a phone, at least last time I tried. I had to battle them to get it.

Looks like it's easier now as that's the third column on this page: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/inhome/packages/

So am I reading right you get your freeview channels through their cable box in HD and also 40 gig for $69.95??? Do you have any idea if they offer larger data plans along the same plans???

As even though I do not really watch any NZ tv these days it could be worth considering if the data amounts were right.

You can have any 40gb plan or higher on this Freeview T-Box plan "Just an internet plan", Basically the $14.95 cost of the t-box is waived for the next 24 months and on a 24 month contract, Install charges may apply.

Sorry to ask another question do you know if the Freeview HD channels are actually provided through your tv's freeview decoder or as with the tv channels that telstra already provide through the tbox???

What I mean is my tv has built in freeview (hd obviously) I am moving to a apartment building where putting a external uhf aerial up is not likely a option so do the channels still run from my tv or through the tbox???

The T-box offering Freeview|HD is a little misleading IMHO. All it does offer is the Freeview|HD channels via the STB.

Freeview is through the T-Box; it's not an aerial feeding the Freeview built into your TV.

To use the T-Box, you need to be connected to the Cable network. You mention you're in an apartment building though; have you checked you can get cable to your apartment?

Well one phonecall to Telstra was all it took to get my blood boiling!  Hopefully that's the only time I need to speak to their customer support, I've ordered the service and as long as they deliver what they've offered for the price offered I'll have no need to talk to them and all should be fine.  :)

That's correct.  I'm not sure about larger data plans, 40gb should be plenty for us.

As I understand it your Freeview channels are delivered to your T-box, which is then connected to your TV (or hifi receiver) with HDMI.  So you won't be using the Freeview tuner built into your TV.
The T-box will also allow you to record Freeview (record 2 channels plus watch a 3rd at a time), pause and rewind live TV, etc.

You just have to be sure that Freeview has all the channels you want.  If you want to upgrade to pay TV at any time in the 2 year contract period (ie. give them more money) they'll first charge you a $399 "disconnection fee" to do so!

So if you choose the Freeview HD option is it just literally the Freeview channels only or do you get the basic Telstra Channels as well??? I know i'm asking a lot of question but i'll get a quicker response here than ringing Telstra.

Toa ll those answering thanks a lot. As for the question about my apartment getting cable I am in the right area but as to whether or not they can service the apartment I do not know. However there is the person who is moving into the place I am moving out who'll possibly get this too.

I'm with Xnet and have voip and have been with them a while so still get the free(ish) 75gig overnight so 40gig probably would not give me enough a month. I have two people who play way too much gaming online as well as watch a lot of TV shows that are not always available here in NZ for example The Walking Dead which is coming to TV 2 soon I finished watching that about 3 or 4 months ago (thoroughly recommend too if u like zombies and come on what's not to like).

Yes Freeview HD is just Freeview HD channels.  The same channels as you'd get terrestrially unless I'm missing something.

For those that are on Telstra cable + Xnet VFX, are there any tricks needed to get them playing together happily?  The changeover was done for me on Sunday and internet and TV are working fine, but Xnet are having trouble getting the phoneline to connect up.  (Their assistance is excellent, as always).  It's probably something I've done or need to do!

Unfortunately a bit of a problem here in the way of the WAG310, it does not work with the WAN being connected fro the VoIP module , we have had a fault logged for years with them on this but it was never resolved before they no longer supported the units here in NZ....... sorry there is not a lot we can do, any ATA will work fine , WRP400, SPA2102, SPR521 etc but the wag310 is not an option when using the WAN interface.

Thanks very much for looking into this Maverick.

I know a few people mentioned earlier that the WAG310G would work fine, but can anyone confirm that they're using the WAG310G?

Cheers

I am currently using a wag310g that is connected through the wan port (the internal modem is disabled), and, I have my phone like provisioned with xnet. This works sucessfully for me (apart from some issue with the router leaving port 21 open, but, that's another issue).

There is a difference in that I am still using xnet as my isp (I am on the fusion plan), I just wanted the higher sync speed that the dynalink rta1320 modem acheived with the local cabnet. The modem is set in half bridge mode.

This is fairly similar to your senario, however, as Maverick is going to sort it, I think you will be better off with what he comes up with.

Daniel.

Fantastic customer service from the Xnet support team and Maverick!  Not only in supplying me with the hardware I'm going to need, but also the follow up phone calls and emails to keep me informed with their progress in sorting this out.  Always polite, helpful and informative.  Other ISP's sit up and take note!

This is in stark contrast to the other telco in this story.

The unfortunate irony is that the one getting the lion's share of my monthly bill is the one with the worst customer service around.  If only Xnet could provide me with Freeview HD as well.  :)
