chiefie: i got the "double download speed" email 2 days ago. check paradise.net/clear.net email?

I haven't seen it either, It probably got trashed by the Paradise spam filter! :-)

Spam seems to be a huge problem on my Paradise address, I only use it for mailing lists but find I am receiving large amounts of spam on it and also missing a lot of mailing list emails, primarily from yahoo groups, that seem to be filtered as spam. I used to be able to check this in the spam folder but they now delete spam immediately.

I didn't get an email about the speed doubling either, so I called them up.  It seems to be a phased roll-out.  She said to wait for the email, then reboot the modem and I'll get the faster speed.  Will happen sometime "next month".

Noticed on their web-site, they advertise the new higher speeds.

another reason why one should have a personal domain email address or use Windows Live Mail or Gmail or Yahoo mail even.

I got my yahoo groups stuff go to my yahoo, my secondary email is gmail, my spam/annonymous email address is with gmail too, my personal/professional is with my own domain, and my msn related stuff is with hotmail/windows live mail.

Can't agree more. I have had a personal e-mail address (the same) for the past 7 years (longer than I have been in any one house!). I never use the ISP supplied address - why advertise who your ISP is and then what happens when you change? Also I have a policy never to use a work e-mail for personal use - not so much because of ethics but because what happens when you change jobs?

To get back on topic I received the e-mail which is why I posted the original post. Must try rebooting the modem tonight to see if the speed has changed.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

they did say "next month" right? So you might not experience the faster download until then? and also "you don't have to do a thing"... So if we need to reboot the modem, then doesn't that mean we have to do something?

She said to wait for the email and then reboot the modem.  Makes sense - don't they negotiate a speed when they boot up much like phone-line modems do, so it'll need a reboot to renegotiate the new speed.

OK for me - I switch all my computer gear off at the wall at night.  Don't want to add to power company's profits unnecessarily :-)

I noticed today that mine has been upgraded. I did the speedtest and I get 3600+ KBps download and 1700+ download.
