nonpraying: I'd have to say that when I looked at my bill it seemed entirely appropriate and I tend to be fairly aware of these sorts of things. It matched with what 3G Watchdog was reporting almost to the MB. I can tell you I used nowhere near 100MB of data. Again I'd have to look at my bill (if I even still have it) to verify, but it didn't appear to be charging me the way you are describing.

No problems, other than Optus network is only 7.2Mbps HSDPA except for a very limited number of test sites that went live in mid to late June that hav 14.4 enabled for testing. Their network is well known for congestion and slow speeds, check out all the huge threads on Whirlpool. Many of the complains make all 3 networks in NZ seem amazing in comparison.

Well I am not sure what to tell you, I am going off what the speedtest app was telling me, and how amazingly snappy the whole thing felt. Maybe I was just incredibly lucky, but that wasn't my feeling over the 4 days I was there.

I have to agree with this. I use Optus when I'm in Australia and it is lightning fast compared to VF NZ, you can actually browse the internet without getting frustrated. (iPhone 3GS)

Optus also round up each session to the nearest MB.

I know we are a fair amount smaller than Australia, but I can't really understand how in Aussie I can purchase a $2 simcard from a provider there, stick it in my phone, and get data for 2c a MB where in NZ that isn't just miles from the rates we pay. Scales of economy can't be the only reason here surely?

It was so cheap I could have an IP based conversation on my phone to my wife's phone on our home wifi!

Plus, EVERYWHERE I went I could speedtest at at LEAST 4Mb/s and in most places I was getting 8+.

I really wish speeds were better with VF in the Auckland CBD, I am lucky if I can get more than a 1Mb connection.

Maybe they have good speeds.

But, getting a Sim in Aussie is not quite so simple as it is here.

To activate the Sim, you have to give a ton of details and stuff like Aussie address and passport information. If you follow the process and can use a friends address then you can eventually get there.

Not like in NZ , where you just walk into a shop and they give you an activated sim.

I think it will change here eventually, prepaid is the choice of crims.

Also, maybe you'd have better speeds on Telecom XT. I've had constant speed problems with vodafone, sometimes i have to switch my phone off/on to get back onto 3g (iphone 4).

Hi There!

I must admit that after 16 years with VF I must admit that the number of customers I have that switched from VF to TNZ for mobile and mobile broadband who seem much happier, I am seriously considering it. I'll prob give VF another 3 months for things to improve and then re-evaluate.

If you're meaning the "no network" issue it's a known iOS bug that affects numerous dual mode GSM and 3G networks around the world. Apple are well aware of it but it seems that fixing things sometimes takes time.
