Talkiet: Are you confident in being able to provide users with unmetered Steam downloads? This has caused problems for other providers recently.

It's good though - games are huge and local unmetered digital delivery is neat.

Cheers - N

Apparently a future version of the Steam client is going to have the option to restrict downloads to only the selected content mirror.

Until then they of course can't.

Oh cool... I know currently it's a bit of a crapshoot and you can sometimes/often limit to a particular server if you are prepared to play with 3rd party SW as well... But yeah, I thought it was a bit brave saying Steam is unmetered (although I do note they cover their a55 with a comment about "from our server" or something)...

The Steam client method of restricting to a particular server is well overdue... Quite apart from our DL allowances in NZ, there's significant speed benefits to making sure it comes from a local server.

Cheers - N

mattRSK: I will change to any company that provides unmetered data to itunes.

When Snap launched the YouTube add-on they did say an unmetered iTunes add-on would be coming..

If you have an Apple TV you're going to love our new iTunes add on. ^PR

Awesome, well I wont have to change then. +1 on the movie rentals as well.

The Steam client is pretty good at choosing to download from close mirrors. Telstraclear had some routing issues before they got their own mirror where it wouldn't use the local Affinity server that was around before it was trendy for NZ ISP's to host servers.

Data caps are a non factor for the rest of the world Cry so it's not surprising it's not yet an option but I think the NZ and AU ISP's have been asking for it.

Any pressure going on at Telecom to get in on the game and host a mirror?
