r2b2: The more cynical person inside me thinks that they're performing an upgrade to the "data counter" and they don't have any backup ;)
If you’ve been waiting to check out those YouTube videos or try your hand at online gaming, now’s your chance.
With lots of people online for longer, some customers could experience slower than normal connection speeds, but we think that being able to do much more online without using any of your data pack makes it worth doing
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
Screeb: The more cynical person inside me (well, when it comes to TelstraClear, there's not much else) thinks that they're simply going to use this as an excuse as to why large datacaps/unmetered is a bad idea (because performance will go out the window). Ignoring of course that people are going to make the most of this small window of opportunity - so of course it'll slow down.
Although I am intrigued by "first free broadband weekend" in the video - implying there will be more. Though that's probably just marketing bull.
So they're admitting that their caps are actually a deterrent to using the internet properly?
Ok, so why not have unmetered all the time then? If it's worth it for a weekend (where performance will be much worse due to everyone jumping on the gravy train before it leaves), then why isn't it worth it permanently (where performance will be better due to people downloading stuff over a longer period, and after the novelty wears off)?

They can use that excuse now without doing a free weekend. If they so choose.
Life must be pretty miserable if you believe they are using this offer to screw you.

'First' does not imply there will be more. What marketing has Telstra been using 'marketing bull' in? I'm not aware of any myself.

Now you are just putting words in their mouth. Plenty of people on low plans (because of price points etc) likely steer clear of content indicated because they choose not to pay for a larger plan.
Their website indicates 150GB data caps available. What part of a 150GB cap is "actually a deterrent to using the internet properly". Utter nonsense.

It is not economically viable to do this in New Zealand. Otherwise Don Gould would have done it already.
