if you're getting HP HW6828, JasJam is not much more than that and you get features and technology that last you longer than what HW6828 can provide. consider it as investment to better technology than aged technology.

So what is the most favourable orientation for a Vodem, assuming one knows the direction of the Vodafone antenna? E.g. point Vodem's non-USB end at antenna w. Vodem horizontal flat on its back?

Yes, thanks, but which 3-D orientation? When you mention it is uni-directional have you a reference to the polar diagram of the Vodem's antenna gain or somesuch? What indicated to you that it is in fact unidirectional?
