tonyhughes: Does the service also allow for calling from the nominated mobile back to the landline?

Yeah, good point.

I would sure hope so otherwise this won't be a competitive offer at all.

The details for Talk 0 have now appeared on iHUG's web site and it looks like calls FROM a VF mobile TO a landline will NOT be included in this plan, unlike Telecom's Freedom offering.

This is a disappointment although I guess that people can still call the landline and ask whoever answers to call them back, thereby getting all but one minute of the call for free.

It's annoying to have to do this though...

I just wish now that

a) iHug had their VoIP service operational

b) this deal is included in it but expanded to include calls to and from mobiles.

Cue "prank calling" (i.e. call the phone, then hang up before its answered), with caller id, and a willing playmate, you dont even have to incur the one minute, just ring twice or thrice, and they know to call you back...

Back on topic of this service, not cost of competitor's offerings - or thread is locked.

Unfortunatly, it seems that like ihugs internet offerings now, you have to get your PSTN wholesaled thru them to be able to get this, which means it ends up close to $20 a month more when you add the "calling plan" that they make you buy with their $45 monthly fee, so that also makes it pale in comparison with telecom freedom.

They may as well just let households set up talkzone zero between all their phones and forget the landline to call them on.

Fair point Richms, but then every member of the household would need to have an "On Account" VF mobile with TalkZone Zero at a minimum of $49 + GST per month each.  That starts to add up real quick Money mouth

In our household, it's only me that's On Account, the other 4 members of the family are on Prepay.  I suspect there are many others in the same boat.

I'm currently (still) with iHug for internet, I just phoned them to ask about the offer.....

"To get iHug support support using your mobile phone call 09 XXX XXXX..... "
kinda good deal. I wonder if you could trick it into making an outbound CSD data connection too?

Ironic.

Tossed into the very fat "to-do" box.

I did like the bit at the end..... Drat.. this would be handy for "soak" testing batteries overnight

isn't intended to be for...
- monitoring your baby
- listening to the other half of your long distance relationship sleep at night
- running a call centre out of your garage

To make sure that the few people who like to do these things don't ruin the party for the rest of you, Calls to your nominated Vodafone mobile on talk 0 will be charged at 55c per minute after the first hour. Smile

I think that this is a good deal. However, calls over an hour will be charged at 55 cents per min.
That is one major reason that I do not like Ihug Phone (although that I share the same value as Ihug and Vodafone, that is, to get rid of Telecom if possible)
I mean Telecom just trust that people use their landline with good faith that they will not abuse it, what is the point of putting this 1 hour restriction on? I mean most of my calls are under 1 hour usually, but the thing is, if you need to talk, you need to talk. it will ruined the mood to say to the other person.... actually we need to hang up... do you mind?

Yeah, but if they let you do the same sort of thing with prepay and on accounts it would be a hell of a lot more use then only calls from a landline, it would promote multiple phone ownership on the same network, and give one less reason to keep a landline - mind you for all that we know that could essentially be what bestmates is going to offer. And with ihug being bought out by vodafone its now in their interests to keep people on landlines rather then move it all to mobiles exclusivly.

Jama: Excuse my cynicism but it stinks of Telecom Freedom Phone right down to the same price. I am not being mean I just wonder why Voda had to follow Telecom and could not be more innovative. Although copying could be considered a form of flattery and I guess it does mean that Voda see Freedom Phone to be a successful service.

I beleive Telecom stole the word "Freedom" from another Vodafone company overseas.
