johny99: Concerning that fibre 200 never obtains 100% in that table. Why is it even an option, why someone needs an EIR connection like that is beyond me.

Can you always drive your car at full speed in peak hour traffic in Auckland?

This is not a good argument. For years TelstraClear HFC gave 100% of speed when testing to its own servers. This all changed when Vodafone acquired the company, reduced investment and decided to launch unlimited plans.

You can't say that getting 10% of advertised speeds is justfiable, not even with this argument.

I would challenge the reduced investment quote as though I can't quote figures that is not the case at all.

Maybe the investment is now reactive instead of proactive so consumers are affected more.

Island Bay, VF cable 100/10, node WKH:

This morning's outage (as reported in Geekzone) was the scheduled node WKH upgrade.

This morning I'm getting full line speeds to WGT, AUK, SYD, MEL, and even LAX.  smile

Just like the good old days!

All tested at 8am via Ethernet:

Auckland:

Sydney:

Melbourne:

Los Angeles:

Tonight is what really matters - it will be interesting to see if peak congestion has gone away.  wink

Proactive

I'm sorry but 223 pages doesn't seem very proactive.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I am guessing but half the posts are by one user connected to WKH and after this mornings swap out they should be posting less

So you are trying to tell me that these upgrades have been in the pipeline for ages and are not a reaction to the congestion experienced.

The DCMTS upgrades, yes. I got hands on with the team this week to see the kit and swap out process etc.

Yes I agree they have been talking about it for ages. Maybe as you say then... Snail pace! Either way it has made the process feel reactive at best even if that is not actually the case, and isn't it customer experience that matters here?
Let's hope the upgrades provide a more permanent solution to the congestion.

Latency is even worse today...

Soooooooooooo...do eet!

Unfortunately, I really do not have any other options at the moment. The flatmates are adamant about sticking with Vodafone, and it'll be another several months (December at the earliest) until I can even think about moving.

If I want something else, I'd have to personally fork over the money for a VDSL connection, with the rest of the flat refusing to share the cost.

I really do hate this situation. :\

EDIT

Here's a traceroute:

Tracing route to google.com [203.118.141.109]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms pfSense.int [192.168.1.1]
2 291 ms 81 ms 283 ms 203-96-148-1.apx1.paradise.net.nz [203.96.148.1]
3 218 ms 43 ms 212 ms 203.167.245.101
4 20 ms 22 ms 19 ms 203.167.245.102
5 81 ms 83 ms 76 ms 203-118-141-65.pppoe.ihug.co.nz [203.118.141.65]
6 77 ms 85 ms 82 ms 203-118-141-109.pppoe.ihug.co.nz [203.118.141.109]

The routers at those first hops may be configured to greatly deprioritise pings, but it still doesn't explain the sudden bad real-world latency.

So get your own connection and stop paying your share of the cable connection then?
