A unified billing system would not be easy to implement. Remember there are a plethora of legacy companies, all with their own distinctive billing platforms.

I agree with the comments re ditching the overseas call centre however - having that is just a waste of time and completely negating any possible savings that might be being made from having it outsourced.

I can think of 5 that need to be merged: VF/ihug, VF Mobile, TelstraClear, WxC, Sky (assuming its approved)

yes it would, ditch the old legacy systems and move everyone to their main system

Great idea, you rock on up to Vodafone with your all-encompassing billing system that will solve all of those problems and ensure exact, precise bills are produced every month. You will be a fairly wealthy man.

(Disclaimer - this is from the time I worked there) there is no "main" billing system - Telstra Saturn had theirs, Clear had theirs, Paradise had theirs...and so on. I was there for three years as part of TCL, and can tell you that 0 progress was made on implementing a unified system. And that's when there were really only three (former) parts to integrate. From memory, it was just too costly and difficult to set something up. Now you have Vodafone with even more parts to try and implement, so it would be even more difficult.

Seriously, it's not as easy as "oh, just move everyone onto one system", nor is it free to do so - there will be a cost involved with such a transition.

Righto but what if that system isn't designed to bill for all those different types of products? Is it a case of "oh, just fix it". Do you think they would pay for that or you (through increased prices)?
Someone else (kawaii?) had a similar idea a while ago and someone else explained why it would be difficult to do.

Island Bay, cable 100/10Mbps, node WKH

UPDATE: The second week after the node WKH upgrade:

Really boring, in a good kind of way ...  wink

Full line speeds 24/7 for Wellington, Auckland, and Sydney.

Almost as good for Melbourne and Los Angeles, where speeds sometimes drop to the 90s in peak hour (oh, the horror!)

Here are my own TrueNet stats for the second week:

Excellent!

Great way to make customers leave. If you change anything about it, they will look for what they are paying, what they are going to now get and compare it. Keep them on the legacy plan and most people will just keep paying as evidenced by the number of people that post on here upset they have been paying more than new customers for a very long time.

This is looking so good I've just been on Vodafone's website to price the cost of an increase to a 100/10 plan. Kind of flabbergasted that its only an extra $10 per month.

I do want to confirm that I will get to keep my Cisco? I don't want a Technicolor.

If you're just upgrading the plan, just say you don't need a new modem. Would call to upgrade the plan.

The Cisco DPC3008 works very well with 100/10 and 130/10 connections.

Hang on to your Cisco.  wink
