Several sites have just randomly stopped loading, or are taking several minutes to load. Talked to my flatmate and he's experiencing the same issue. Speed tests still peg us at a solid 130 Mbps, though. Very strange - and frustrating. :\

EDIT

The problem went away mere seconds after I submitted this post. Strange.

Had same thing here just before.

GZ and reddit both kept timing out, only lasted for a few minutes thankfully.

it is though as your only putting them onto CURRENT Vodafone plans

Great way to make customers leave. If you change anything about it, they will look for what they are paying, what they are going to now get and compare it. Keep them on the legacy plan and most people will just keep paying as evidenced by the number of people that post on here upset they have been paying more than new customers for a very long time.

its not hard and probably not even costly to offer them new customer rates

At 229 pages, is this the longest geekzone thread ever?

https://www.geekzone.co.nz/analytics.asp? look on "Topics with most replies" tab. This thread is just about half of the size of discussion about the first Samsung Galaxy. If you filter by year 2015 then yes, this is the longest thread started in 2015.

Huh, Galaxy S, S II and S III taking the top three was not what I was expecting.

Don't worry, assuming Chorus doesn't get fibre into HFC areas before 2019 this freight train will take the top spot I'm sure.

What happened to that new super fast 1Gb speeds were were promised for June?

Just going to chime in and say that the connection has continued to perform exceptionally well - it's again above and beyond my wildest expectations. I went to visit some friends yesterday and got to toy around with their Bigpipe 100 Mbps UFB fibre connection. I was really surprised to see that they were only getting ~25-30 Mbps to Los Angeles, and that was outside of peak hour! Meanwhile, I'm still getting full 130 Mbps line speed to LA.

I seriously don't know how these international speeds are so consistently achievable, but I am certainly not complaining. I'm actually more impressed with this 130 Mbps HFC line than I was with the 100 Mbps pure fibre connection I toyed around with yesterday.

Vodafone really stepped things up with that D-CMTS rollout. I've still run into a few quirks, like pages not loading for a couple of minutes a few days ago, but overall it's been smooth sailing. Latency is low and bandwidth is high. It's such a good feeling to be able to go home and enjoy rock solid Internet again.

I assume you aren't actually thanking Vodafone here for performance that you are actually paying for?

Their response to this whole 18 month cable saga is abysmal...If it was to happen again now with a lot more UFB availability they would have lost substantially more customers.

Regardless of what's happened and Vodafone's slow response and non existent communication there is nothing wrong with showing a little gratitude.

I'm thanking them for getting things sorted finally, yes. I am grateful to have a connection that consistently performs as advertised and generally meets my needs.

However, do not think for a moment that my thankfulness means I've forgiven the last 1.5 years of congestion. The congestion issues in general needed to be handled better. Fixes should have been rolled out sooner, and customers should have been proactively informed and reimbursed, in my opinion.

I do still believe that people should seek out reimbursement if they were highly negatively affected by the congestion. They absolutely do not deserve to have paid so much money for a connection that performed painfully below spec. Many new customers on the HFC network will have a fantastic experience, but us customers that have been here the whole time have definitely received the short end of the stick.

Vodafone could very well have a good thing going with these investments, but I do believe that they need to repair their tarnished reputation above all else. Plus, customers need a reason to choose cable when UFB fibre is otherwise available. Vodafone will either need to undercut fibre prices, or deliver unparalleled performance that you can't get elsewhere. There's practically no incentive to go with cable right now if fibre is available. Cable is simultaneously more expensive and lower-performing, even after the upgrades.

So to reiterate, yes, I'm thankful for having access to a high-speed connection in an area that otherwise won't have fibre until December 2019. However, I certainly have not forgotten nor forgiven these problems. I was possibly one of the most outspoken, frustrated individuals in this thread. Heck, I'm still incredibly wary of anything that Vodafone promises. Switching to fibre when I have the chance is still a high priority, though I won't be complaining if Vodafone can turn the ship around and give people reason to choose cable over fibre. That possibility is unlikely, but ultimately the competition is good for us.

So just in the last few days I have been getting bad lag spikes in online games, didn't think much of it but tonight it's annoyed me enough to look at it using ping plotter

50Mb/2Mb cable in Welly, only one online in the house, several bad packet losses throughout.

Thoughts, should I complain?
