I got a call from RNZ today asking about this. They want a live show this Friday morning and will be inviting TelstraClear to answer questions as well... Let's see if they show up.

Basically TelstraClear admitted there's a problem, they have a plan to implement a local Google YouTube cache and the project is underway with about three weeks to go live.

As expected there is not much to talk about the commercial aspects of implementing the Google cache.

As for not acknowledging the problem before the official line is that they spent some time investigating the issue and came to the conclusion their network is working as designed, and the cache would be the answer, but they couldn't confirm the issue until they had known for sure what was the problem.

This line is ok for them to protect themselves, but it would be similar to Telecom saying there was no XT problems during the outages because they couldn't identify the cause...

Overall good on TelstraClear to come clean but as I said before, six months too late.

The problem I have is "3 weeks to go live". We all know what that means.

Sadly, yes

by the way, that won't solve the same problem that affects TvnzOnDemand, by any means
