They can (maybe) solve YouTube's problem but what's next? are they going to install a local cache from Facebook, Viadeo etc?
What about content in New Zealand or Australia?
Mauricio, why didn't you ask about peering?
I suppose you wanted to keep the discussion in the contest of YouTube's performances.

Peering wasn't the topic - and I doubt it would help much, as I was asked to keep things less technical as possible. I agree peering would be the Holy Grail for TCL users... Alas I don't think it will happen with the current leadership.

Adam Wright Set aside time to listen on RNZ, still no homemedia update. Really disappointing. There's Chinese government officials that are more forthcoming and open than this.

No, I wasn't going to ask about HomeMedia. It wasn't the topic. But he could have offered...

Screeb:Do people on other NZ ISPs who do have Google caches get such bad performance on unpopular (not cached) videos that they can't even stream at 320p half the time? I don't think so. A cache isn't going to help that. He also goes on about how it's a time of day thing - this is also not true. It WAS a time of day thing back when I first reported the problem, but since a few months later it's unwatchably slow 24/7.

It is definitely a time of day thing.  Early afternoon or mid morning during the week works great up to 420p and quite often to 720p.

Well that's strange, because as I said, time of day makes no difference for me. Even if I'm up at 3am+, it's still as slow as ever. I haven't been able to stream 720p at all for a long long time.

Tme of the day makes no difference for me. And from some comments I've seen here and on Twitter, some people are not affected at all.

YT working well this morning - DL kept well ahead of the play right through; eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEGyxlCP3tA&feature=player_embedded

Something changed?

Google caches aren't ready yet so your better performance is probably more hit and miss than anything.

Red tape cut. @Google Caches arrive at @TelstraClearNZ mid May. Can't wait. http://post.ly/bAsk

Ladies and gentlemen, I think I have a new record! 45 minutes to load a 4 minute video. In the time I was waiting for my video to finish loading I had a shower, did my teeth, made breakfast and lunch, caught up on my emails, wrapped a present and talked to my friend for 5 minutes. And after the video finished loading I preceded to download OpenOffice in less time than it took to load the video.

I'm sorry TelstraClear but that google cache better be up and running soon or when my contract ends in the next 4 weeks I'm jumping ship. It's just not worth the annoyance.

Somewhat glad i'm going to be jumping ship in a few months... relocating back to Auckland, so Cable will no longer be on the cards. Of course, i'll also be working for the competition...

Yeah, I'm getting this too. I'm trying to watch a 6 and a half minute long video at 320p and I've calculated that it's going to take just over an hour to download.

Performance has been steadily degrading over the last few days. Currently getting 5-75kbps.

Yeah. Speed that slow has NOTHING to do with TelstraClear having no Google/YT cache. Maybe it'll get fixed another 7 months after the cache goes live.

I had up to 15% packet loss earlier this evening. That was just reaching past my own local router!
